A book that reads like music,
By
This review is from: Rattletrap Car (Hardcover)
Phyllis Root's books always read like music, but this one in particular is like jazz. I've just heard her read it, and the sense of rhythm is extraordinary and catching -- a book that almost sings itself. It's a perfect read-aloud for a hot summer's day!

fun book!,

I love this book. We borrowed it from the library originally. We checked it out for 10 weeks in a row and I read it every night to my son. He loved to follow along and make all the crazy sounds that the car made. He has 2 other siblings who love it just as much. We bought it finally and I have to say this is my absolute favorite book to read to them. They get so excited making the silly noises and they even want me to find a recipe for chocolate marshmallow fudge delight. That would be a fun interactive thing to do with them. I'll have to come up with something.

One of the best childrens' picture books around,
By
This review is from: Rattletrap Car (Hardcover)
Rattletrap car is a fabulous book. The pictures are exceptionally appealing, the story is engaging and the rythm and rhyme great for involving young children. I have collected many wonderful 'classic' picture books over the years but Rattletrap Car is one of my favourites by far (and my children's favourites). We have been on many picnics where we have taken along 'chocolate marshmallow fudge delight' and 'razzleberry, dazzleberry, snazzleberry fizz'. This book is truly a must buy and you will not regret purchasing it. If like my family, you own a 'rattletrap car' too, it will be even more appealing!

My 2-and-a-half-year-old son asks me to read the "Poppa turned the key" book. This is one of those books that's so fun to read, you don't mind doing it a bazillion times. Your mouth gets happy as those crazy sounds come out, and the illustrations are so entertaining. You can just spend time looking at each picture and seeing the little details of the pastoral scenery, oh I love the sheep and chickens. It's quite an adventure!

Razzling Dazzling Fun and Delight!,

The simple concepts of trying and succeding while chipping in and showing initiative are given class A treatment in this book, one of the most charming and enjoyable on our shelf, and one that our 3-and-a-half year old has loved it for a year now. The great cast of characters and the charming if decrepit old car are very appealing, and the wonderful rhymes and catchy phrases make it a winner all around. Try not to smile when your kid says: "razzleberry dazzleberry fudge delight" a dozen times a day...

My two-year-old and I first fell in love with this book at our local library. We decided we just had to have one of our own. We love, love, love this book. It is so much fun to read over and over again. I now buy it for all of my Mom friends as a fun but off the beaten path gift.

I have used this in my volunteer work as a "Library Lady" who reads for groups of pre-schoolers. It lends itself so well to group interaction; we used hand claps and snaps for parts of the repetitive chorus. It's the gentle story of a family who finds some extremely creative ways to get to the swimming hole, and I love how the baby saves the day, when all looks lost. This book is a "rhymer", but the use of rhyme adds to the joy of the story, rather than calling undue attention to itself. We'll be using this regularly at our library!

I have read this book thousands of times now and even I'm not tired of reading it! It grabs kids attention with its delightful patterning if words and colorful pictures. Though I purchased it in the winter it is a summer time book. If you are looking for a book kids will beg you to read look NO MORE!

A Perfect Read-Aloud,
By
This review is from: Rattletrap Car (Paperback)
I've just bought this book for my two-year-old grandniece but I can't help rereading it over and over myself. It's impossible not to read the delightful language out loud! The illustrations are big, bright, and full of details, and the language is picture book writing at its best. All ages will enjoy this outing to the beach!

I usually am attracted to a children's book because of the illustrations. This artist fit the bill. The imaginative story of an undaunted family trying to have an outing was very clever. Through the use of each toy and confection loaded, it was accomplished! Great fun.
