This tamper is excellent, high quality, solid design, heavily weighted. When purchasing, keep in mind the 53-mm measurement is EXACT, and therefore it will NOT fit the DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker machine.

It took approx. one minute to take out the pressurization mechanism from my Saeco Aroma portafilter. This Rattleware 53mm tamper fits the Aroma pf perfectly. Now with my Baratza Virtuoso grinder, Rattleware Tamper, and Aroma I'm pulling pretty great ristretto shots. Not master barista great, but the real, dark, mottled crema and syrup-like viscocity of the shot seriously trumps the fake crema and watery consistency I got with the pressurized PF and no tamp. Buy this!

I bought this because it fit the size for Aroma Saeco. It is very heavy and feels very well constructed.

I just received this item from Amazon and it is a perfect fit for my Saeco Aroma portafilter. Nice handle, great heft. If this will fit your machine, I highly recommend this item. Excellent value.

This tamper fits La Pavoni Si filter pot. It is nicer than in the picture. Perfectly weighted.

Here is the problem. The RIM of this tamper is only 7mm high. Other "professional" tampers are about 10-12mm high.

That low rim creates a problem. When you tamp your espresso grounds into the portafilter basket, this tamper will go all the way and BELOW the top of the basket. In fact the upper side of the rim will sink about 4-5mm all the way into the basket (with a 20 gram doze). That makes it very difficult to create an even grounds 'puck'. Most other good tampers will go in until the upper side of the rim will be at around the same level of the top of the basket, making it very easy to make sure that your puck is even.

You want to have an even puck for an even extraction. Otherwise, you wouldn't be looking to buy a tamper, right? ;)

Another aspect of the shallow rim is that it is more prone to tilting while inside the basket. A tamper with higher rim walls (10-12mm)will keep it strait more easily for you.

If you are a super expert barista, I guess you can deal with it. But lets face it, a super expert barista will buy the $60+ tamper for his/her pro machine. Not this item.

I give it 3 points because it is an exact 53mm and nicely polished. :)

I am returning this item after 4 weeks of using it. It's not a very good tamper. It's a shame. Make this tamper 11mm high rims, and it would be a very nice one.

This tamper ended up being the perfect fit for my Saeco machine. While I think it's a bit pricey, it's well constructed and solid enough to create a perfect tamp with little effort! I'm so glad I chose this particular tamper for my Saeco machine.

I have a rather old Estro Vapore that later became rebranded as the Starbucks Barista, which is essentially the same as the Saeco Aroma.

I found that my machine was always getting espresso grounds caked up in the seal. Part of the problem I finally figured out was the poor, tapered, and too-small design of the Starbucks tamper I was using.

I decided to spring for this relatively pricey item. It is 53mm in diameter whereas my measurements of both the 2-shot basket and pod basket were around 53-1/2mm with a very slight taper. The tamper also has a very square edge. I was hoping the tight fit and square edge would keep the grounds out of the threads and rubber seal.

It sure did the trick. Cleaning my espresso machine is now 5X easier as the tamper keeps all the grounds pressed into the basket rather than on the sides. As a bonus, the thickness of the base is just the right depth so it is flush with the basket when tamped, letting you know you got the right amount of grounds in the basket and not overfilled.

Other than the high price, I give it a small nit because the top part is of a relatively cheap, hard plastic, and doesn't have that nice grippy feel of the Starbucks rubber grip on their tamper. Overall, I am very glad I purchased this as it makes me a lot more willing to use my espresso machine, knowing that it won't be a dread to clean.

This is a nice heavy tamper that is well made for not too bad a price,other tamps of this weight can cost twice as much and more with fancy wood handles,I'm happy with this one.

Purchased for use on my Starbucks Barista Espresso Machine...PERFECT Fit. Wonderful product. Nice weight, comfortable handle, and it comes in a cute litte mesh bag!!
