I've been waiting for this all year and finally I can officially say that it was worth the wait. I can't stop listening to it...I CAN NOT STOP LISTENING TO IT!!!
This album accomplishes a very unique dichotomy. As a whole, it flows seamlessly from one mood to the next, and takes you through a spellbinding journey of emotions; AND, each song still stands solidly on its own! I can hear a lot of these songs getting played on the radio. In fact EVERY song is wonderful! You enjoy the album in all its entirety without a pause, yet each song has its own story, its own life, it's own "raison d'etre." You experience so many different emotions - just like life itself - before finally arriving at the reflective catharsis of the grand finale....I am spellbound! And now we learn that "Grey" is only part I of a whole impending suite?!! If Rausch's intention was to leave you begging for more, well mission accomplished! BUT there are 3 songs in particular that to me are really going to make history: The Pros and Cons of Linear, Survival Instincts and Bipolar...these are 3 of the best songs I've ever heard. Rausch is a real artist, a genius! The deep lyrics, the enchanting music, the sensual and beautiful voice, the great interpretation and the skill of the musicians...every single detail is meticulously - yet lovingly - executed to make this album a magnum opus!
I recommend it to all people who really love music AND to those who really couldn't care less...this is going change their minds!!!
Doug Rausch's debut album is a refreshing venture into musicality. At a time when the music industry is changing, at a time when even most of "progressive" rock is anything but progressive, comes along this young man, with a clear passion for music, and delivers an album that sets down a challenge to the world. The challenge is this:- "STOP what you are doing, and just LISTEN to my music; it will reward you."
The album is not perfect, but is nevertheless a fine debut that does deserve to be heard. Rausch is clearly a talented musician and hopefully he will go on to fulfil the promise shown by this debut.
As you listen to the "Bohemian Rhapsody" undertones within the opening track, the single "No Fair", you might want to consider that that particular track came on Queen's fourth album. Now, I am old enough to remember Queen's debut and Rausch's album more than holds its own against that venture!
Rausch has done well to associate himself with some fine musicians and professionals who have added their class to this endeavour, to its benefit. The CD's sound is good, the playing is good, the music is good. Rausch's piano playing is particularly impressive - it is the sonic highlight of the album. The piano is played melodiously and emotively. Rausch's singing voice complements this basic element perfectly; it is soft and supple, able to carry the melody so that Rausch is occasionally able to do that most wonderful of things - pare everything down to a single instrument (not always the piano) and let the music speak in a very clear way, the melody being the key, the emotion in the voice, the story-telling in the lyrics.Read more ›

If you could buy just one album this year, you would have to buy this one ! Im so disappointed with many artists I love and their new creations .... RAUSCH is truely talented and the music is quality, so are the lyrics, the voice ... A must have ! It was time !!! This album, I can feel it already, it's arrived today but I know it will stay near the player for a long long long time ! It's the one you know you will play during years.
