A Wonderful Opera by a Great Composer,
By Homunculus (Mansfield, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rautavaara: Aleksis Kivi (Audio CD)
When the definitive history of late 20th century music is written Einojuhani Rautavaara will command a deservedly prominent place in the pantheon of both orchestral and operatic music. His style is sometimes reminiscent of that other great Finn Sibelius, sometimes of Berg, but always uniquely his own. Aleksis Kivi, the story of Finland's first great modern poet, is alternately lyrical, humorous and tragic. This is a brilliant recording of a stellar piece of music.
