Review

Raven Chadwick longs to fulfill her dream of becoming an actress and bringing to life the great literary characters she has come to study and know so well. But Raven's gifted abilities are overshadowed by her beauty and the image others seem to have of her. In her hometown of Savannah Raven found herself caught between those who thought she and her family were beneath them, and those who thought Raven felt herself beneath them simply because of her proper upbringing by a mother once of the peerage. But Raven cared little, knowing all that mattered was her family, Mama and Papa, her sister Angel and her sister Flame, now happily married and living in Texas. When Raven finds a threatening note to her mother from her relatives in England who disowned her years before, Raven is finally compelled to leave her problems behind and head for London to determine who is threatening her mother before her parents come for a second anniversary, looking to make peace with the family. Upon her arrival in London, Raven finds a piecemeal of a family, Marcus, the current Earl, his sister who loves to torment him at every turn and take full advantage of Marcus' financial problems, and two aunts - one a compulsive drinker, the other a hateful old spinster who loves to make others miserable. Raven is forced to endure the living arrangements with the family in order to discover who has made the threat to her mother, but it soon becomes more than just uncomfortable when someone tries to kill Raven. Even more disturbing to Raven is her growing feelings for Marcus and the uncontrollable passion he seems to feel for her as well. It is one event after another until the twisted, sick mind of the evil doer is revealed and nature is allowed to take its course. The second installment of the Chadwick women (Flame 3/94) reunites us, if only briefly, with the Chadwick clan, but gives us the background and insight into why the girls' mother was disowned by her family when she married a poor Irish man. Ms. Rogers is true to the time period and effectively demonstrates the narrow minded opinions of the classes and their actions when one does not conform to their proper place. Flame does not have to be read to enjoy Raven, but you won't want to miss one adventure of these stunning ladies.Another well-written achievement for Evelyn Rogers! Ms. Rogers has created a completely fiction family that you wished lived next door! Raven soars! Ms. Rogers is extraordinary! She creates strong willed women who are not afraid to be bold in the bedroom, diplomatic in the den, and frail in matters of the heart!Diane Potwin -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. More About the Author

Evelyn Rogers's first job was selling women's underwear in a downtown Houston department store.  She's since hawked candy at Sears, worked the switchboard at a commercial laundry, planned programs at an Air Force service club, taught English and was a librarian, the last two for 25 years in middle schools.
Each had its rewards and challenges, but no more so than her final chosen profession:  writer.  The award-winning author of 31 books and 8 novellas, she found great satisfaction not only in her craft but also in meeting readers across the U.S.
She and her husband live in San Antonio, frequently visited,  energized, and, yes, exhausted by their five grandsons.  But she still misses those up-close-and-personal visits with her readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars RAVEN, June 7, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Raven (Paperback)
This book had a little bit of everything: of course romance, and the chemistry between Marcus & Raven is sizzling, but there's also, adventure, painful tragedy, with a touch of gothic intrigue. Marcus is such a sensual man and the dialogue between him and Raven was so steamy! I've read several books by Evelyn Rogers, and I'm always impressed. This was her best book so far!
