Inspired Native American Rock,
By
This review is from: Raven in the Snow (Audio CD)
This is the first Bill Miller CD I bought. I picked it up because the album cover looked interesting--I had never heard any of his music before. But after one listening, I was hooked! There are driving guitar songs, and there are instrumentals that make you want to dance in a forest glade somewhere. There are ballads that make you want to cry with joy and sorrow, and angry songs that that remind you life is hard. Through it all, his Native American heritage shines through with a spiritual light. His songs "Listen to Me" and "This Kind of Love" are songs I turn to again and again for the comforting reminder that God is with us and wants the best for us. After owning this CD for just a short time, I went out and bought The Red Road, and I've snapped up every CD he's released since then.

Bill miller makes his foray into rock style music with great success. Still staying close to his Native American roots, Bill combines the traditional with modern chart music to create a fusion album of pleasing proportions. His fluid voice paints vivid pictures in your mind's eye while still making poignant statements. Excellent. Certainly worth the money.

A wonderful mix of traditional Native American Tribal music and contemporary songwriting with an honest and open theme of love, faith and hope.I think Bill Miller is being shortchanged by modern radio programmers who just want money. Check it out, it is well worth it.

Heart and Soul,

If you haven't heard Bill Miller sing and play, you're missing a true talent. This man has so much heart and soul.... I've seen him twice in person and hope to again. He puts on a great show, he truly sings from his heart, he plays many instruments, he's a great storyteller. He's a rocker. He's fun. He's touching. He's strong. He knows who he is and stands up for what he believes and can have a good time doing it. Whether you like native music or not, whether you're interested in native issues or not, if you like good music, this is a great album.

I recently found a sealed copy of Bill Miller's "Raven in the Snow" for less than a large cup of boutique coffee goes for in these crazy times, and since then, I've heard it about a dozen times. The covercaught my eye, and now my ears have been ensnared as well.Mr. Miller is a Mohican-German singer-songwriter, and he has drawn respectfully from his heritage and spiritual connections and people's trials and tribulations to craft a diverse collection of tunes in a range of styles. And it takes more than one listen to appreciate the subtlety of the messages that underlie the music, whether the song is more or less modern Nashville as in River of Time, harmonica- and slide-infused blues such as Eagle Must Fly Free, or a powerful protest ballad like The Final Word. Mr. Miller also includes an intriguing triptych In Every Corner of the Forest (I believe this trio of too-brief instrumentals is more typical of some of his earlier recorded work). Mr. Miller shows he is capable as a songwriter, vocalist, and performer, and he has a haunting voice. He is adept at flute, harmonica, and guitar as well. The only problem is that this CD does not have quite the staying power one would like. Eventually, you start skipping tracks and then begin listening with less frequency. Producer Richard Bennett helmed this effort and Reprise deserves some kudos for allowing an original voice to be heard.
