Sorrowful black/death but not too extreme,

First of all, I am not going to write a horrible review on this disc. I did enjoy the musicianship and feel I experienced while listening to this piece. There are alot of great elements to this disc including the lyrics, riffs, and spectacular drumming. However, I personally enjoy the morbidness and hate filled lyrics of true black metal, for example Darkthrone. Anyway, my tastes could be different than yours so I'm sure you will take this review with a grain of salt. However, I do encourage you to purchase this release as it will be a great addition to your death/black metal collection...not the best...but a good investment.

God Dethroned is now a feature in my ever-growing collection. this album that I bought is the 3rd album I have heard from GD. one track that I listened to, "The Iconoclast Deathride", sounds as if Primal Fear or HammerFall supplied the riffs. while Roel is gone, Tony Laureano, who drummed for Nile and Angel Corpse, does a very competent job. if God Dethroned comes out with a new album, I will probably be first in line to purchase it.

Just listen carefully,

First the cover: i think it's beatiful. I have to compare Ravenous to Blood Blasphemy. So far, the album are different and beatiful in themselves. Ravenous become more death than black. The slow parts and the quiet moments maybe are not what u should expect from a band like this, but in the end, do not disturb. Ok, you have to listen this album several times to give it five stars, but i know if you only try....

God dethroned's "Ravenous" is a band that i been a fan since their begining and yet they still haven't let me down, at all. All the songs on this album are original and have great lyrics as well as amazing musicianship, all together. I recommend!

Ripping, Melodic, Sorrowful Black metal...,

This is a great album. Very melodic, and in many place, very sorrowful, with some haunting harmonies and dirges, which surprised me, as a past God Dethroned fan, they never really delved into this kind of deep musicianship. Normally it was just, kill, satan, die, blood... next song... and so forth. But I think, like so many other black metal bands (Dimmu, Mayhem, etc.) That are changing and evolving, God Dethroned is as well. And because of this, they are outshining so many other "Hardcore" black metal bands who still think low-quality production is "in" (Goatwhore, Satyricon, Amon Amarth, etc.) In a world of generic, mass produced black metal sludge... this is a welcome treat.
