Fabulous!,

This review is from: Raven's Brew (Paperback)
I have never been a big poetry reader but Ravens Brew is so amazing and fantastic. Chrissy Davis takes you into her poems w/ her and makes you feel part of it. I definitely recommend this to poetry readers and those who aren't poetry readers. It will change your mind!!!

A quiet little treasure,
This review is from: Raven's Brew (Paperback)
Some things just don't mix well together, things like cheeseburgers and loneliness. This is true when it comes to me and poetry. In short, I didn't really know how to appreciate this kind of worded art as much as the more long-winded novel or short story, but I'm more than glad to have picked this up. As one reviewer put it, the poet is one for all people. From the beginning piece "Sea Stories" that sets the tone for the collection, to the last soaring stanza of "Finger Painting," you'll know that you're in for a treat. What the poet offers here is an amalgamation of snapshots, thoughts, and emotions loosely connected not only by subject matter but by that sort of human condition that we all harbor inside.
The poems of this collection are all at once evocative, quiet, and dark and they present themselves successfully by also exhibiting a kind of clarity of vision all artists strive for. Childhood, nostalgia, betrayal, guilt, love-- these are only some of the recurring themes touched upon with both an honest and forward-looking eye. Some of the pieces that have left an impression in my mind are "Sandwich," "Armchair," "All the Tea in China," and "Old Woman at IHOP." If Peter Pan's followers are still out there, they are embodied in the piece "Lost Boys." Another piece that stands out, "Mayhem's Monkey," to me details the torturous process that is writing. However, whatever the subject, the poet consistently presents to us meditations of the psyche, the results of time spent reminiscing. If this poet can convert this reader to appreciate the essence of feeling that makes poetry so strong, she can do the same for you. No more pearls before swine here. This comes with highest recommendations.

I have my own personal copy of this book and I have to say I love it! I can really relate to the emotion behind each and every poem. Tonight I am purchasing this book to send to a friend as a gift.
