Gav Thorpe has been rampaging across the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 for many years as both an author and games developer. His works include the hugely popular Angels of Darkness, the Last Chancers series and the ongoing epic tale of The Sundering. Good addition to Horus Heresy lore,

Good audiobook. The narration is a bit cheesy at parts but still done well. The sound effects were definitely a nice touch for further creating appropriate atmosphere. Well written for the most part. Some small bits were a bit melodramatic and way over the top, but over all typical 40K butt kicking. Nice to see a humbling of the Primarchs and a realization of symbiotic relationship between men and Astartes. Far better depiction of a Primarch as a genetically altered super man with a heart, mind and emotions that kicks some butt rather than just a Terminator made flesh.

I bought this because it was part of the Hours Heresy series, I wasn't at all confident I was going to like it. I was very surprised. The way it was read was more like a radio drama than a standard audio book (in which the book is first and then someone reads it). Even the sounds effects work in its favor and add alot to make this something you can listen to while painting or cleaning your house, therein turning a dull activity into one which is both productive and enjoyable.
