Good addition to Horus Heresy lore,
This review is from: Raven's Flight (Horus Heresy) (Audio CD)
Good audiobook. The narration is a bit cheesy at parts but still done well. The sound effects were definitely a nice touch for further creating appropriate atmosphere. Well written for the most part. Some small bits were a bit melodramatic and way over the top, but over all typical 40K butt kicking. Nice to see a humbling of the Primarchs and a realization of symbiotic relationship between men and Astartes. Far better depiction of a Primarch as a genetically altered super man with a heart, mind and emotions that kicks some butt rather than just a Terminator made flesh.

I bought this because it was part of the Hours Heresy series, I wasn't at all confident I was going to like it. I was very surprised. The way it was read was more like a radio drama than a standard audio book (in which the book is first and then someone reads it). Even the sounds effects work in its favor and add alot to make this something you can listen to while painting or cleaning your house, therein turning a dull activity into one which is both productive and enjoyable.

This was a well received Christmas gift for my son. He was very pleased to get it and thoroughly enjoyed it. He said it was well done and entertaining to listen to while on the road.

As an avid fan of Warhammer 40K, I purchased the Raven's flight to see how these new CD Audio products would fair. My initial impression was that it would be very good. The background sounds and speakers were very good.
However, the duration of the CD leaves much to be desired and the story line was left hanging. I for one would say that the price of the product ($11.50) is very inflated when compared to a book ($7.99), which would have more to the story. The product is overpriced, but the idea has potential. |
