Get Your Penguins Onto The Ice,
By
This review is from: Ravensburger Penguin Pile - Up - Children's Game (Toy)
This is a game for developing steady hands in children as well as teaching them about balance. Dozens of plastic penguins are equally divided between players. The players then take turns placing penguins onto a tiered board that balances from the center like a loose lampshade. If any penguins fall off during a player's turn, they become part of that player's flock. Knocking all the penguins off does not automatically lose the game. The first person to get rid of all of their penguins wins.
Because fallen penguins re-enter play instead of knocking out a player, this game can run ten or fifteen minutes. There is some setup necessary as the penguins arrive in three pieces and need to be assembled. This is pretty easy but some penguins seem to go together better than others. Because the penguins are distributed evenly between the players with extras left out, the loss of a penguin or two does not keep the game from working. My kids have had a lot of fun playing this one, especially my daughter who is currently very into penguins. Check it out.

This game is a bit too difficult if plated as directed. We took our iceberg off the "floating sea" and instead let the iceberg stand flat on the table top. Little (and big) hands still find plenty of challenge piling the penguins on the berg. It's a lot of fun and even the 2.5 year old can play.

I purchased Penguin Pileup for my four year old niece. The game was very durable, worked as described and my niece loves it. I am no good at piling the penguins and usually lose which makes it even more fun for her.

Our 4.5 year old daughter loves this game. She received it as a Christmas gift, played with it almost exclusively all Christmas Eve, and on a daily basis since.
She doesn't use the "water" but just puts the "iceberg" on the rug, then practices placing all the penguins - which is still tricky for her age group. We have enjoyed playing it as a family as well as it's a challenge for all ages. Seems sturdy although we've got a very gentle child. I imagine in rough hands, the "iceberg" and "water" might not last as long as the penguins. We're very pleased with this game and would not hesitate to recommend it - in fact another family member is planning to purchase as a gift based on what she saw Christmas Eve.

We got this for Christmas for our 4 yr old. He's half decent at it and it was surprising how many times his father and uncle even had to collect penguins on their turns from the balancing act. The 2 yr old even got a couple good turns in. It reminds me of those games we used to have like Ants In the Pants and Don't Break the Ice. The kids like the penguins as little play figures on their own as well, and count them and line them up. I love how it trains a steady hand. We are very happy with this game!

I bought this item for my 4 year old daughter. She absolutely loves this. It was fun to watch her in the beginning and she started learning right away that you need to balance the board in order to keep adding penguins. She is very good at it and can even beat me or my wife at times.
Not only is this fun for kids, but I found that it is even fun for adults. We had a party and some of our friends started having competitions on this game and turned it into 1 player to see who could stack the most penguins. Great for kids, great for adults, I am definitely glad I bought this. It is not one of those games that just sits in the closet and never gets played.

I had this game in my fourth grade classroom for use during recess. It was a perfect game for that setting. Several can play, besides being fun to watch. No reading or counting is required. It was also nice because we had recess residents from the special classes, and they could compete, too. The rounds move quickly enough that several children got turns during our twenty minute breaks. The only thing is keeping up with the penguins, but we managed.

A must for any penguin collector with grandchildren.....A little hard for the young ones to play by the rules in game....But let them make up their own! I had it in one of my penguin displays at the holidays!

The game was more fun for the older (7 to 10 year olds) because if you touch the mountain it will knock off most of the penquins...little ones had no defense against the rocking. Fun anyway. Would buy again. Thanks for no-hassle shopping Amazon.
