Smoldering and very interesting erotic retelling of a fairy tale..., November 6, 2005
This review is from: Ravished (Paperback)
I have read erotic retellings of fairytales before, Anne Rice's Sleepy Beauty novels spring to mind, but I'd never imagined an erotic retelling of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. But after reading Chaz Thompson's Ravished, I could see why a male author would choose to rewrite this particular fable. Set in 19th Century, during the French Revolution, when the fable first came out, Goldilocks (Wilona) wants to start a life in London. But in her attempt to escape rural life, she encounters various obstacles, all of which are very graphic and smoldering erotic encounters. The novel is written as the fable was written. People discover that their chairs were used, food was eaten and their beds were slept in. Well, more like people had had sex on their beds. The bears are mentioned, but in a different manner. There are many erotic scenes throughout the novel.
I was impressed with the way this novel was written. The story is without a doubt one of the most erotic ones I have read. Wilona and Gareth are very well developed and I loved their first sex scene together. The novel follows a fable-ish, fairytale-like tone throughout the novel that gave the fanciful twist the story needed. Going back to the sex scenes, they were very well written. It follows some male fantasies, but it was also written in a way to please all readers, regardless of the gender. The dialogue centered on groans and moans during the sex scenes were unnecessary (not to mention redundant at times) though. It is funny that Wilona has lustful, carnal encounters at every turn. Then again, this not unlike most of the erotica I have read. All in all, this is a wonderful offering. I loved Candy Concussion and Zoot, but Ravished is my favorite Thompson erotic offering. It is better written than the Sleeping Beauty novels in that this is more fast-paced and doesn't lag the way Anne Rice tends to in her books. I recommend this wonderfully erotic fairytale retelling very much.
