I have taken the 101 course in criminal justice with Mohammad Bashir's book, Raw Law: An Urban Guide to Criminal Justice. I have learned more about the justice system in 202 pages then I have ever known. This book provides readers with definitions and case scenarios that explain how the justice system works. It tells the good and bad of the system as well as who falls victim to it.

The law can be very tricky. It is easy for criminals and innocent people to slip up and make mistakes. These mistakes can arise due to confusion and the misinterpretation of information given to the accused. Mistakes can also cause people to lose their freedom. Raw Law gives readers the knowledge they need to detect when something is wrong or when someone is setting them up. It is funny how the law can betray a person at times, but can also be of help in certain circumstances.

Raw Law: An Urban Guide to Criminal Justice is a guidebook of useful information. The main thing I have taken from this book is to not trust anyone in the justice system because everyone has an agenda. The criminal justice system has trained individuals whose specific job is to use psychological training to convince you to agree to something that is not true. These trained individuals can spin words that will have you confessing to a crime that you know that you have not committed. Be careful, be aware, and remember that the justice system is not always your friend. I applaud the author for writing an educational yet interesting book that will help people become knowledgeable of the criminal justice system.

One of the best books I've read so far this year... if you know any lil git, young misguided adult, Goon, Street N***a, delinquent, or whomever that keeps getting caught up, buy them this book. Also, this book needs to be given out to at every Black function in 2011 from church services, bible study, NAACP events, Hip Hop Source Awards, and Tavis Smiley and Cornel West need to get a hold of it. Also shouts out to Cash Money Content for publishing this literature

This book was a page turner from start to finish! It is so thorough and easily to read I could not put it down. This is a wealth of knowledge in 199 pages. One of the things I commend the author on is his ability to dissect technical legal jargon and explain it as though he were talking to the average person. There are so many things about the law that we as citizens either take for granted or just do not realize. The author does a commendable job in expressing the fact that the best way to avoid the criminal justice system is by staying away from it. He also gives compelling examples of why this is so important. When I saw this as an "urban" guide, I assumed it was targeted towards a particular audience. While this is apparent in the book, it is good read for any and every citizen to understand all factions of the law.

Usually, if you want an attorney to give you good advice, you have to pay for it by the hour. Thankfully, Brother Muhammad felt like sharing his wisdom and knowledge of the law, for less than $20.00 bucks! This is an informative guide for any block boy, block girl, hustla, hustler, scam artist, or stuck up spoiled brat who thinks, he/she is above the laws of this gov. The fact that the author uses many of his own cases and is so honest is a plus. There isn't much one has to say about a book such as this. If you are interested in law, I suggest you pick it up. If you are a law breaker, this is a must read. Though don't be fooled, brother Muhammad does not teach you how to break the law, he simply breaks it down for you in the simplest of terms. After reading this book, you may not need to retain an attorney, you may be able to plea yourself out with the prosecutor or gain the wisdom to change your ways. No matter who you are, or what side of the law you are on, this is a good book of reference, terminology and statical outcomes.

For me, RAW LAW by Muhammad Ibn Bashir is a way of looking at the law as well as the criminal justice system through the eyes that are most likely to have to go through it. The author has used his time in the court room dealing with the system and clients to teach the world through this book how we can expect things to be as we live from day to day.

Do some just see minorities as a color? Is there harrassment based strictly on bias and stereotypes rather than on facts? I will leave that up to the individual to try and decode. Either way I think the author has really tried to put out a book that will appeal to professionals and laymen alike.

Informative yet simplified for easy reading, RAW LAW is the real deal for all of us.
