I purchased this set since it is superior DVD quality -most likely. But I already have most of these episodes on VHS.Don't anybody laugh! Most of the "Incidents" are first rate and authentic. No Rawhide fan should let this set go by, even if you have the older formats. This series will never be successfully remade. It had an old-world feel, with actors who -in most cases-were real cowboys. You could smell the dust and you felt like you were out on the trail with them. The whole cast is superb, but for me, it is Eric Fleming who literally drives this herd, and his crew..with integrity, honesty, compassion, and vulnerability. He makes mistakes but is the first to admit it. He is the classic role model hero for all time. Sheb Wooley as "Pete Nolan" is another wonderful character, as is Steve Raines and Paul Brinegar. If you haven't seen Wishbone (Brinegar) dishing out the grub along with sarcastic, hilarious remarks, you are in for a treat. This is a series for all ages. There will never be another like it.

At last a complete season release for Rawhide. Eric Fleming continues to deliver a great performance as tough Trail Boss - Gil Favor. Most certainly as the seasons progress all the characters develop, Rowdy becomes far more argumentative and no longer the kid that worships his boss. But it is in Gil Favor we see the greatest character development. In the first couple of seasons Favor was more the straight forward western hero, but gradually the writers and Fleming himself have evolved Gil into a tough almost anti hero. He is usually right, though not always, this is good, he is not infalliable or invincible. We see how tough the job is for a trailboss and at times his crew really do dislike him, however I find the Gil Favor character believable and far more convincing than Rowdy, the ramrod. However Fleming and Eastwood play off each other well and the tension between the characters add another dimension to this wonderful series. All the drovers have finely developed characters and each episode provides us with super, generally gritty entertainment. Sheb Wooley as Pete Nolan is missed but I rather liked Charles Gray as Clay Forrester, whilst he was never up there with Pete he did provide a sharp contrast to Gil and Rowdy. Some of the great episodes this season are Incident of the Four Horsemen, The Reluctant Bridegroom,Spider Rock, Married Widow ( a sublime performance from Fleming in an episode co scripted by Charles Gray), The Hostages ( surprisingly touching), White Eyes,Pale Rider ( a hauntingly scripted ep by Dean Reisner and featuring a fine performance from Eastwood ), and of course many more. So saddle up and ride 'em cowboy, Rawhide continues to roll on!
Footnote, the dvd picture and sound quality from my viewing so far is a vast improvement on Season 4's release. Also great to see some episode previews introduced by Fleming or Eastwood.

I was happy to see the release of another season of Rawhide. I was especially glad that the whole season was was able to be purchased as a complete set instead of two seperate purchases. There are some good episodes in the 5th season. If you like Rawhide you will not be disapointed with this item.

"Rawhide" is one of the best TV westerns and Eric Fleming IS 'Gil Favor'. There would be no show without him -- he created one of TV's most unforgetable chracters. I think he would have been a major star had he lived and I'm grateful to have these DVDs to remember him by.

I can't wait for the rest of the seasons to be made available on DVD.

Eric Fleming was such an amazing actor, too bad he died in that accident.

After immersing in several seasons of this superbly reproduced series, some of the characters are starting to get on my nerves - the trail boss shouting down his drovers, the cook whose blistering belligerence begs for a whoopin, the dimwit cook's aide whose role as the laughingstock wears thin fairly quickly, and finally, by Season Five, no further doubt is left that the producers figured Rawhide was the catapult for Eastwood's career, as he takes greater prominence (the covers are no coincidence). Still, the plots are varied and over the course of each season, follow a geographic logic, concluding in the trail drive's arrival at Sedalia, Missouri. At the conclusion of each season, you have a sense of having shared the journey to a limited degree, like immersing yourself in a realistic and detailed account of a military campaign. Rawhide also generally avoids Wagon Train's oppressively soapy orientation. These shows are as clear as they were in the 60s; there's no hint of the passing years. Anyone who has a hankerin for soaking up some trail dust without spending an afternoon reading their Louis Lamour should have Rawhide at the ready - all the available seasons.Rawhide: The Complete Fifth Season

There is alot of American History that is shown in its true light.
We have enjoyed it very much. All of the actors and sets
are like wise true to history. Especially enjoy the way the indians
are featured as true intelligent beings versus being shot dead.
We do not see anything as to date that we do not like.

Hi Barbara, I have had that very same problem several times. All you can do is sign up with tvshowsondvd.com as they will then notify you as soon as any release date comes out. Then I keep checking Amazon and pre order asap, I know it's not satisfactory but the best we can do.
