More About the Author

Having been involved with food and wine for years as a trained wine expert, gourmet food and fine wines were a part of my every day lifestyle. Meeting and working with many top chefs and studying classical french cooking along with many other cuisines, inspired my passion and creativity for food. It also led me down a path to excess weight, general fatigue and other symptoms that I knew were associated with my diet. My body was seriously rebelling and I needed to do something about it.

Then I found raw. It was exciting to find a whole new way to prepare and eat food. Exploring the world of raw food was fun. There were new things to learn at every turn. I tried some of my own recipes but experienced a lot of failure, so I just learned how to prepare raw food using every cookbook I could get my hands on. Reading about raw, the health benefits, and the principles behind this way of eating became an obsession.

I became 100% raw. It was amazing. I lost weight, had more energy than I have ever had and the best part was the mental clarity that I began to experience. My health issues resolved themselves and I felt better than I had for years.

But all journeys have their bumps in the road. Minnesota winters are very cold and long. Stress was building up in my life from other sources and I defaulted back to my "comfort" food. All the consequences of what I was eating became glaringly obvious as I gained weight, experienced more fatigue and lost my focus.

Knowing full well that all of the symptoms I was having were directly related to what I was eating, when spring hit, I decided to dedicate myself to eating high-raw.

I believe that a healthy diet consists of raw and cooked food. I now eat about 80% raw, 100% vegan.

With a little patience, planning and some transitional recipes, it is easy to avoid the pitfalls that temp us. Eating well is one of the best gifts that we can give ourselves and our loved ones.

It is said that 60% of our illness in this country is caused by the SAD (Standard American Diet). Our current way of eating is not only making us sick, it is also quickly depleting our planet of it's resources in ways that are completely unnecessary. It is time to bring a new mindset to the masses. Help us spread the word as we show ways to a more nutritional way of eating that celebrates the flavor and beauty of food!

A great variety of unique recipes from snacks, drinks, breakfasts, main dishes, salads to desserts. I also found the section on helpful hints to be just that - very helpful especially on using a dehydrator e.g. rotating shelves, calibrating the temperatures, starting off at higher temperature for a short period of time to reduce dehydration time and minimize bacteria growth etc. etc.
As someone mentions to produce many of the recipes it would be very useful to have a food processor, blender and dehydrator. In general if you want to do raw in general you really need some of these kitchen tools.

The book was a great deal on Amazon and reads well on the Kindle.

I think this book is great because it gave me some ideas on how to make certain items. I also love all the pictures. I only gave it three stars because a few of the recipes I've made didn't tell me how many the finished product would serve and I ended up with lots of food I had to throw out because it made too much. Raw recipes don't last very long in the fridge. Also, you had to have a dehydrator for a lot of the recipes. I had to research on my own how to use an oven in place of a dehydrator. An oven can be done!! So if you're interested in this book, don't let the dehydrator factor deter you completely. It still works. You just have to research a little. Also, the ingredients required for a lot of the recipes are very expensive. (i.e., basil oil, raw filberts, pine nuts, etc.) But I guess expensive ingredients should be expected with a raw food diet.

This book - and all of Susan Powers's cookbooks - live up to the title "Rawmazing!" She's the reason I ventured into raw cooking in the first place. We 'met' on Twitter and with her help, I became one of her biggest fans. I even helped edit her first book. I have tried virtually every recipe she offers - this cookbook, a collection of the very best, is front and center on my favorites shelf. I reach for it every single day - since now, thanks to Susan, raw recipes are a part of every meal at our house.

I bought this book randomly at Barns and Nobles in December 2014... well, now I can not put this book down as I keep making and making dishes from it. I do have all the best equipment in my kitchen for a raw "cooking" (10-tray dehydrator, spiral cutter, Vitamix, electric veggi slicer, Champion juicer, etc) so making a recipe is not a problem for me. I have other raw-cook books and they are laying dusted in my shelf as I barely use them (like "Raw" by Juliano which is a total waist of time and money).
This Rawmazing book absolutely blew me away not only with photos, mini stories about each recipe, but especially because every recipe I have made so far is not only delicious, but beautiful as well, just like on the photos. And my non-raw family/friends are totally shocked that "this stuff" looks and tastes so great.
Please, note that Measurements are SO exact that when I tried to add/reduce just a little of some ingredient the overall dish would not be as perfect. So make sure you follow exact amounts of ingredients indicated in the recipe. For example, I added just a few more walnuts to my fudge and it was too much, so I had to take those exact 5 walnuts out to reach good consistency.... isn't it something!
Now I know I should not worry about adjusting a recipe because it is already perfected by Susan Powers.
So far, my and my non-raw friends favorites are Crapes, Roasted Tomato Soup, Wraps, Fudge, White Chocolate raspberry Cake (I did not have raspberries and used fresh figs and bananas, see photos). I attached photos of my dishes made from Susan's recipes.
Oh, one more thing, on the down side: in some recipes she does not specify small details and you just have to figure thing out on your own.

I love this book and all of Susan Powers cookbooks. I found her sight " Rawmazing" very early on my raw food journey. I have all of her cookbooks and every recipe I have tried has been simply the best.

This book is great for anyone starting out on a raw food journey as it goes over kitchen tools and appliances, how to set up a pantry, it has a terrific " helpful Hints" section and even easily explains the science behind why eating raw is good for you.

Even if you are not raw and just want to eat healthier, this cookbook has a plethora of great recipes. Whenever I am invited to a party the first cookbook off of my shelf is this one. Most of my friends are not Vegan and my dishes are always very well received and one of the first to get devoured! THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE RECIPES! Susan is, quite simply, a genius in the kitchen.

It has everything from drinks, to appetizers, crackers, cheeses, salads, soups, main courses and..... lets not forget the desserts! The OMG Pecan Bars are..... OMG!

The photography is also stunning! Your mouth starts watering as soon as you open the book!

I highly recommend this and any Susan Powers cookbook for anyone looking for healthy, but delicious alternatives. ENJOY!

I've been a "raw foodist" for five years now. A year ago I came across Susan Power's website, "Rawmazing". It provides all the necessary guidelines and explanations of this type of healthy food preparation, not to mention a listing of incredibly tasty as well as healthy recipes. This wonderful book contains many of these great recipes and more. Susan is also an accomplished photographer, so each recipe is accompanied by colorful photographs. Believe me her cuisine tastes as good as it looks!
