I bought this shelf because it was a lot cheaper than the Middle Atlantic unit. The metal thickness is just as good and the finish matches well. The ventilation hole pattern is not as pictured. The current model has a regular pattern of slots and can be seen on the Raxxess web site.

It's a bent piece of metal with conveniently spaced slots and some sort of black coating...powder coat? paint? who knows? it's black.

It's heavy enough that it doesn't flex unnecessarily. It has some heft to it, so if you're trying to keep your rack super light be aware of that. The coating is strong. The pre-stamped slots go sideways so that if your gear does come loose, it slips sideways and not forwards, protecting the knobs.

I recently had to drill additional holes in one for a homemade piece of gear with totally random mounting hole locations, and it took a while to get through.

I like it enough that I bought another one.

You wanted an inexpensive tray for your Rack Mount Case? This is it. works just fine (I use it to hold a Blu-Ray player). The overall strength is B+ but the coating was flaking and there was visible red rust on the steel. Because of the coating issues I have to rate the whole piece as a C-. But it works... you get what you pay for. I am happy with the purchase despite the flaws.

I put one lightweight metal vpn router on this shelf, and it's sagging in the middle.

Bought this to mount a Yamaha FB01 and a Boss SE-50 on a standard 18-space rack. The units fit fine (it could easily hold two FB01s, which are a millimeter or two larger than standard half-rack), although I'll have to use velcro to prevent them from sliding back when using the front panel buttons. The real problem is that the mounting holes seem to be spaced incorrectly. I'm not sure if this is standard to all UNS1s or if mine has some sort of manufacturing defect (although it doesn't appear to have any issues otherwise), but I can only mount it via one screw on either side. My rack contains several other units, all of which mount snugly against each other without issue, so I'm sure that isn't the problem. The rack is strong enough to hold the units though, and the FB01 seems to require a little more headroom anyway, so I've mounted it with the lower pair of holes and it's completely stable. Just be warned that, for the truly anal-retentive, it may not be an ideal solution.

If I had one gripe it would be that it's not deep enough, but the dimensions are as advertised and the quality is excellent.

A quality 1u rack tray. Strong construction that will withstand a lot of weight. Utilizes four hole mounting and has ventilation slots. Paint is good, not that cheap crap that chips and flakes off with the smallest damage. I am currently utilizing this product as a tray for a DSL modem and my wireless router. Cleans up my components that wouldn't otherwise fit in my racks. I really wish I had these several years ago when doing d.j. work. Could easily combine two of these and a 2u fan plate for good cooling and a clean rack appearance.

All in all another great product for a reasonable price. Raxxess will definitely be seeing more of my business.
