I've been eyeing the wayfarer for quite a few years toying with the idea if it is worth spending the money. Just recently I caved in and spent the extra money I had laying around on these. I'm glad I did. Don't be fooled; although the price tag can be shocking, the quality of these sunglasses is outstanding. They are very sturdy and they sit really great on your face, and that's another thing, I haven't found anyone who looks bad in a quality wayfarer.

Should you buy these? Yeah, why not if you want quality sunglasses that will last you a lifetime if you take great care of them. You definitely feel the difference between $15 sunglasses and $100 sunglasses.

Some tips when buying the wayfarer; there are two different wayfarers. One is the original, the 2140 and now there is the 2132 which is totally different from the 2140. It does not have an angle and the size of the frame is smaller. If you are going for the classic, the 2140 is your perfect frame. In my opinion, it sits much better on your face and has the iconic look we all love. The 2132
is still a nice frame but it lacks the "wow" factor when compared to the 2140.

Sizes:

The 2140 comes in two; the 50mm and the 54mm. If you have a small face and small features, the 50mm is perfect for you. The 54mm is much bigger and more suitable for those with larger features. If you're unsure which size would fit you best, I recommend going into the nearest retailer and trying both on, as I did.

I ordered the Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer RB 2140 in White/Texture/Azure Mirror Blue Gradient, 50mm, from HDO Sport on Thursday and received it on Saturday! It comes with the special red case, red Ray-Ban cleaning cloth, Ray-Ban pamphlets, and a Ray-Ban Rare Prints Special Series Certificate of Authenticity, all placed in a matching red hard box. These sunglasses are absolutely stunning! The Azure Mirror Blue lenses are dreamy. The London Texture is so cool only you would know. This is the real thing, "hand made in Italy"... no worries here :) Nice packaging & super fast shipping make this one awesome transaction!

I've been wearing Wayfarers on and off for almost 40 years. That's a long time to be attached to any one product and that should speak volumes about how timeless these sunglasses are.

First of all, here are the specs for the sunglasses I purchased and why I purchased these particular glasses:

I bought the 2140s. The 2140s are the original Wayfarer design not the newer, smaller ones (those are 2132s) which personally, I don't like.

I also opted for the 54mm lens size and I'm glad I did. Note that the 54mm lens Ray Ban has added to the lineup are larger lens - the 50mm were the original sized lens when these sunglasses were first introduced. There are a few good You Tube videos out there on this topic and if you're not sure what size lens you want, go see the videos. Just search for "Wayfarer 54mm versus 50mm" and that should get you to them. Surprisingly, I didn't realize how much of a difference the lens size would matter, but it did. I’ve got a large head and you’d be very surprised how much of a difference the larger lens make in a comfortable fit (and look).

I also bought the polarized lens which are an option. They are more expensive and in fact, they retail for $200.00 dollars in stores. Why polarized? I live in Florida and I’m out or by the water quite a bit so for me it’s almost mandatory that I want to be able to cut down or eliminate the sun’s glare. It’s an expensive option but well worth it (this will cost you here on Amazon about $30.00 dollars more, give or take).

So the designation I purchased were 901/58 (the 901 denoting the 2140 original Wayfarer and the 58 denoting the polarized lens). Why is this important? Because when you get your glasses, you’ll see along the inside left rail of the glasses “901/58”. You’ll also see “54018 3P”. The 54 means 54mm - the 018 refers to the spacing between lens (18mm) and the 3 means brightness level (3 means high brightness) and lastly the P means polarized. Why would anyone even care about this? Because there are fake Ray Bans being sold that don’t have this information on the left rail. It’s a good idea to go watch the videos on fake versus real Ray Ban’s - you know where to go to find the vids.

I wore fake Wayfarers for a while simply because I got tired of shelling out $150.00 dollars every time I lost a pair or sat on them or they walked off, etc. The bottom line? There is a reason why people shell out $125.00 and more for Ray Ban Wayfarers and that reason is quality. The lens are beautifully crafted glass, not crappy plastic. The connection between the side rails and the sunglasses are 7 point hinges made of anodized metal. There is a metal rod that goes through the length of the side rail, too.

Everything about Ray Ban screams (albeit subtlety) quality and excellence.

The best part about buying them here on Amazon? The great price. You’ll easily save $50.00 dollars or more off what you’d spend at a mall or specialty sunglass shop.

In summary I’ll say this: If you’ve never owned a pair of Wayfarers you owe it to yourself to try a pair. There is a reason why everyone from Jack Nicholson to Debbie Harry has worn them and why they never go out of style: quality never does.

I ordered these sunglasses as a gift for my son. I paid with my Visa. A few weeks later he received them and they were too small. Instead of refunding my visa account which is required by law, he issued a gift card. I didn't want a gift card, I wanted to take my son somewhere that he could try the RayBan's on. Now I had to pay for another pair and I have a gift card I DON'T want. I contacted this seller many times and not ONE email was answered. Shame on you and I should report you.

FAKE! Don't buy these... I got mine and wore them a few times only to realize they had different sized arms and sat weird on my face. They also lack the tilt that 2140s are supposed to have.. Stay away.

BE CAREFUL People...there are ALOT of really good FAKES being sold here(MANY SELLERS). I sent 2 pairs back this month. They LOOK real in almost every respect...One pair passed every test...but there just seemed to be something "WRONG". The plastic "squeaked" and felt cheap and they seemed to be stretched out..they would NOT stay on my face/nose. I did a side by side comparison.....they looked identical. The one pair(REAL pair..I bought 3 pairs) felt SOLID & were a tight fit.Don't settle for anything less than a PERFECT FITTING PAIR.Even at $80+.....that is ALOT of money for an ill fitting pair or a FAKE. China is KNOWN for making great fakes/copies.

The only problem with these sunglasses that leads me to believe they are fake is that they do not have the correct slant that authentic Ray-Bans have. Besides that, these say polarized but mine were not polarized. They were missing the P on the lens showing that they were polarized. I would say that this could be a mistake but I ordered two pairs and both were incorrect. Also, the frames were matte when I thought from the picture that they would be shiny.

these glasses were not balanced. When I wore them I could tell they were crooked and when I looked in the mirror it was confirmed that they were. When I opened up the package, the actual box for the sunglasses looked like they grabbed it out of the garbage can and reused it. Also they looked very fake. I'm returning them today so hopefully amazon doesn't give me a problem in returning my money.

I am conflicted because they looked very nice on and when I checked the authenticity, I just watched some youtube videos and looked at images to see if they were real, and they seemed to passed. But when I purchased the same pair directly from Ray-Ban, they looked really different. The amazon pair had a much more "faded" etched RB on the lens and the boxes looked slightly off. Maybe the amazon's are just old? They seemed used when they came like many people had tried them on prior to me and the box was slightly beaten. I had to return them though just because I wasn't to sure about the authenticity. I did buy them directly from Amazon and not some 3rd party seller.
