Paid over a hundred dollars for fakes from China. This model of Ray-Ban sunglasses is only manufactured in Italy. If the earpiece says Made in China, you have been ripped off. If you zoom in on the picture, you can see Made in Italy on one of the earpieces. The glasses I received said Made in China, so I was immediately suspicious. I contacted the Ray-Ban company itself and the customer service rep (and a manager) confirmed that this model is only made in Italy. The glasses I received from Sunglass Express were cheap plastic -- plastic frames and plastic lenses. I've purchased $[...] from a mall kiosk that were higher quality. Our saving grace was that the order was fulfilled through Amazon, as they refunded our money right away and emailed a prepaid shipping label. My recommendation is that you spend the extra $50 and purchase from [...].

Update (4/5/11): Here is what we posted and the seller feedback... apparently they didn't read our feedback that Ray-Ban Corporate says all model 3183 are made in Italy...

Seller Feedback: Sunglasses are fakes made in China. Pastic frames, plastic lenses & do not have the etching in the left lens; only something that is suppose to appear as etching. We contacted Ray-Ban & this model of sunglasses is only made in Italy (except for children's frames). These are complete FAKES! We will be contacting Amazon for immediate re-imbursement and a free shipping label."

Thanks for the email. We appreciate your interest in Ray-Ban. The RB3183 comes
with an APX lens (APX is a high performance plastic material that offers a large
amount of impact protection), and a metal frame. All of our glasses will be made
in Italy unless they are listed on the list below:

These 10 styles are made in China. Also all Ray-Ban Junior sun styles are made
in China as well. The rest of the styles would be made in Italy. We are unable

I purchased these glasses from sunglass express & I received a Made in China RB3183, I contacted Rayban Customer support & they informed that this specific model is only make in Italy, but Sunglasses express said its also Made in China, Having not able to confirm the authenticity of the product I decided to return the item. suffered a loss of 15% restocking fees also.
Will not advise to purchase from ths buyer unless you just want glasses & does not bother about the quality of the product.
Amazon should take action against these sellers.

I've had my Ray Ban 3183-004/9A's for a few weeks here in Phoenix and have been extremely pleased. I initially struggled with the thought of paying over $100 for sunglasses, but made the leap of faith knowing the good reputation of Ray Ban.
I first learned of the 3183's after trying on a pair at Big 5 Sporting Goods. However, my Big 5 store only carried the silver/gradient polarized pair (004/82) and Ray Bans never go on sale there. I knew I wanted polarized, but personally find the gradient lens a little annoying. So I turned to Amazon in search of a non-gradient polarized 3183.
Pros: quality vision lens, thick lens, light weight (frameless side/bottom) and easy on my nose, down/around ears instead of straight back so no falling off or pinching my head and giving me headaches, curved design so sunlight doesn't enter sides, spring loaded bars so no accidental bending, made in Italy not China amen
Cons: the nose attachment is overly noticeable when I glance left/right but I'm adjusting to this minor issue, the way the lens attaches to the frame seems weak to me but only time will tell if it's actually a problem.
This is not necessarily a con, but I once read a review for the 3183's that said the protective coating on the ear bars wore off too quickly, but again, only time will tell if this is really an issue or just an isolated incident.
One other thing that confused me is how Amazon retailers sometimes refer to these glasses as "Sidestreet". My glasses say "Top Bar" and I never did find a Sidestreet designation on Ray Ban's website.
Bottom line: No regrets, Sunglass Express shipped flawlessly, and I'm even thinking of ordering a second gradient, yes gradient, polarized 3183 pair...

Great glass.
Very light, and improves a lot driving confort.
Be careful when using the polarized lenses when you need to easily read monochrome LCD intruments, such as airplane instruments.

I previously had a pair of very similar, in fact almost identical sunglasses from Fossil, but those couldn't hold up after about a year or so and literally started to fall apart on me, so I went about looking for something to replace them with and stumbled on these beautiful Ray Ban's. What luck!

Let me be clear, the price difference is pretty staggering, but man alive it is so worth it. My old Fossil sunglasses were nice looking, but they were junk compared to these, made in China and had thinner, cheaper lenses with poor quality polarizing.

These Ray Ban's on the other hand? They look almost identical but they feel SO much nicer in the hand. They're a little heavier than the Fossil, but it gives them a quality feel. They're polarized much better, have better reflective coating on the front and the awesome blue reflection on the backside. The lenses are thicker and more well made and overall it's just a much better pair of sunglasses. Did I mention that these are made in Italy? Yeah, you can tell after about two seconds that they're 100x better than the typical $20 garbage and knock offs.

All in all, I have no qualms paying the premium for these puppies and would do it again in a heartbeat. They say the sting of poor quality lasts long after the satisfaction from saving a few bucks and I think this is definitely one item where I do NOT regret splurging.

If this is the style you're looking for, and in this price range, I really don't think you can go wrong with these. I might even buy another pair with different lenses, I like them that much!

Nice style. Very wide so good for folks with wide faces like me, not sure how they would look on a thinner face. The nose fixture is in line of sight all the time - bit annoying. The lens color is a bit light but I expected this. Would have preferred a darker color. Its easy to see through from the outside to your eyes. Very light weight glasses. Overall good, just if yuo're looking for something dark I would give these a miss. Good value for $ though.

This is the second time I buy same pair from this seller. The first was a replacement for a pair I got from Sunglass Hut, which I lost. I also lost the first one I got here. All three looked the same to me, so I doubt that they're fake. And if they are, then they fooled me.

I like the design (obviously, since this is my third pair) and the fit. They are dark, good in very bright conditions.

The one issue I had with all three pairs is that the rubber at the end of the arms, the part that goes around the ear, gets chalky looking, like there's a white film that cannot be removed. I'm guessing it from sweat and water. It is hardly noticeable when you're wearing it, but, if you're a perfectionist, it may bother you a little.

Read O. Itani's review and then come back to this one - the little protective ear covers (the ear socks, the rubber temple covers - whatever you call them) are the problem for me. If you manage not to lose them, they will start to tear and disintegrate after about a year. Poorly made ear covers make this a 2-star pair. I love the look and feel of the design + lenses but to screw up two of the four points of contact with my head makes this a 2-star review.

this is my second pair of these shades, when I lost the first one I immediately went on amazon to get these and they arrived 2 days early. As usual Amazon is tight to their word

Love the style, just not for larger heads. This was the second pair of Ray-Bans I had ordered from the same company but had to return them both for the same reason.
They were too small.
