Editorial Reviews

Two disc (CD/DVD) edtion of this 2009 collaborative release. The Mattson 2 have been playing together since they were conceived as it should be for twins and they've been playing their brand of Jazz for nearly as long. The idea that Ray Barbee, guitarist extraordinaire, should team up with the Mattsons gestated much more recently. Both the twins and Barbee share a lot of commonalities: clean, fluid musicianship, a love of Jazz in all its forms, and recording for the Galaxia label. It seemed inevitable that sooner or later they would collaborate on something special. 10 tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saw these guys live and was blown away, October 3, 2009

There's an obvious "qualifier" which is you have to like this particular sound. . . It's not really jazz at all, and it's not a "jam band" sound. I've become a little bored by both -- so this is some odd surfy-jazz-jam sound. Very atmospheric, but a level beyond in virtuosity from the electronica bands that also incorporate live instruments.

Best new album I've bought in at least a year.

i gotta believe that this release is going to be at the top of a lot of "Best of 2009" lists. an absolute top notch gem through & through. a wonderful sound of cool, hip jazz as seen through the talents of west coast youngsters. not in the least put on or phony & the real love & care put into these recordings comes oozing out of the speakers. i'm completely taken with this cd & it's not only a highlight in the fantastic Tommy Guerrero, Ray Barbee, Blktop Project school of sound but it clearly shows that we can still experience this level of artistic brilliance at this point in our culture. right down to the artwork & packaging. thank you brothers Mattson & Mr. Barbee & everyone involved!
