I first read this in elementary school and did not exactly understand the young love implications. However, a subsequent reading made this all the more magical as I could finally connect to the longing for passion. I guess I had never thought of Ray Bradbury as writing romance, but his gift for the different made an enchanting fable of a young with who catches spring fever and dares to fall in love with a mortal. Think along the lines of "Twilight".
