I remember the "Martian Chronicles" with Rock Hudson, Maria Schell and others and I'm still waiting for a re-release of this mini-series. I bought "The Martian episodes" instead and it's nothing but a cheap and unnecessary remake. Sci-Fi Fans will maybe enjoy it, but there is certainly better stuff on the market !

I remember seeing the Martian chronicles when first it aired on Television as a mini-series. I never thought that any one could accurately put Bradbury's poetic vision of Martian colonization and the end of the earth on celuloid. This film does an admirable job of presenting Bradbury's vision. Although there are a few scenes that some might consider to be slightly campy, overall, the film is haunting and poetic. The mini-series does what no single movie could have. For any Bradbury fan, it is a welcome gift to see his words translated to screen, as they have rarely been done in the past.

I watched Martian Chronicles the 3 part series on TV and it was great and entertainment(wise) better than this. However this takes place on more the timescale concieved by Bradbury, over not 8 years but 25. Starting with the "Expeditions" and youthful astronaughts(although a bit comical) and ending with A much older crew and the many inhabitants of Mars. The series on TV in 1980(mini series) was better by a long shot and the reason was, as most mid-late 80's sci-fi serial films,(and Outer Limits in the 90s) canada film studios and companies had a heavy influence and these were too canadian in atmosphere for my taste, gothic, but not the right sort of "gothic". "Thirteen"(as in "-I-" made this") and other groups were probably responsible for "the Fri 13 The Series grimness and classic-atmosphere-without style" attitued I got from these, but they are still good to watch. Particularlly Glover's semi-comedic performance as "The Last Man on Mars" and of course the psycologist(or psyciatrist) who thinks "HE" is part of another Man's hallucinations. And "Believes HE" is seeing what the "illedged crazy" man is seeing but does stubbornly(typical psy) not beleive even what "HE" is seeing! Martians! Those two are the more lighthearted and to me entertaining of this collection. Incodently, The mini series does not contain "Usher II" or the "seeing is believeing" episode.

An extremely low budget and cheap film. It is divided into 5 mini stories based on Bradburys Martian Chronicles. It is no where near as good as the original Chronicles starring Rock Hudson.
