I recently saw Mahjongg play in NYC by mistake. I walked into a venue to see another band and they came on and it was thrilling. They were exotic and captivating. This is jamming music that is informed by Talking Heads as well as Fela Kuti. Every song has a jazz progression and the song just takes off from there. Just imagine the album "Remain In Light" remade by Squarepusher and Damo Suzuki. I don't know if this isÊ a rock album or an experimental album. It's obvious that we are talking about a very unique band here that needs to be experienced. Mahjongg seem capable of several types of records. I look forward to all that. "The Stubborn Horse" actually sounds like a hit single too. It could have been a cool New Order song. Mahjongg need listeners.
