5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent adventure for everyone!!!
Hello Rayman!

Don't be fooled about the "for everyone" label on this game. This is not only a truly amazing work of art, graphically speaking, but also one of the best 3D arcade games out there on PC.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great gameplay, but lousy structure
This is a great game on many levels - but has a terrible structure for all but the most hardcore of time-losing gamers. The big problem with this game is that you can only save at the end of levels - and some are massive. So your only options are to either play through the entire level (some take hours), or quit part of the way through and start over at a later date...

Hello Rayman!

Don't be fooled about the "for everyone" label on this game. This is not only a truly amazing work of art, graphically speaking, but also one of the best 3D arcade games out there on PC.

Character animations are done in superb quality, with a lot of details in conveying emotions with the animated bodies. The environments are also crafted well, with excellent architecture that never makes you feel that you are running through a maze.

Music is also a strong aspect of this game and is well delivered. And sound effect is used with great effect.

There are two points that must be noted. First, this game is very hard. I know a friend who downloaded a patch to make Rayman invincible... and he still couldn't finish it. Also, there is no in-game save-game feature. You can only save after a level. Although most levels are "bite size" so you don't lose much progress if you lose, there are numerous occasions that a particularly difficult scenario would require you to march through the same terrain again, and again, and again.

The PC version is different from others is that it features 5 languages, but no voice-overs. Voices are done in the same way as the people in "The Sims" or the adults in Charlie Brown shows.

It is an excellent game for kids who are looking for fun, and for young adults who want to switch from the usual First-Person shooter games.

Buy Rayman 2. It is the best PC platform game and is better than any N64 platformer. It is fun to play and its graphics are great.

I enjoyed Rayman when he was just a side-scroller, but WOW - what a difference in 3D! This is not just a game for kids (either that or I'm a lame adult) because its NOT easy! The game challenges you to find different paths, tools and tricks to get the cages and lums. I am not in love with all the camera angle work, but for a major jump to 3D, I'm very impressed! I'd recommend this game to any gamer that just wants to have fun - children and adults alike, it becomes very addicting!

5.0 out of 5 stars Have a Blast Adventure!, December 16, 1999

Amazing! Super! Thrilling! Are the first 3 words that come to my mind in just a few seconds. I enjoyed the graphics and the pace of the game, its not slow and it is not too fast. And I like the fact that there is a combination of different adventures, challenges and themes. The different amazingly colorfull worlds are all unique and beautiful. You have got to try this game out, its worth it to the last penny. I am glad that some developers still create games such as Rayman 2, with no violence and rage, but colorful, nice, warm and adventurous fun where the whole family and their friends can enjoy.

If you like those 3D adventure type games like Mario on N64 then get this game. The 3D graphics are pretty decent. This game doesn't have any bloody gore or foul language so some people might say its a "kiddie's" game but it should appeal to gamers of all ages. As Rayman you explore the levels, picking up things, finding secrets, etc....I mean almost every game will look and play so much better if you had a TNT2 or the new GeForce 256 card. Also an 8 button gamepad is also kinda required, because you have to run and jump, etc. Overall, good game!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Graphics, Good Story, Better than Mario 64, February 20, 2000

This review is from: Rayman 2: The Great Escape (CD-ROM)
First, the graphics are the best I've seen. There is actual mist above the water in the marshes and waterfalls. The ponds ebb and flow, the clouds roll by with a distinct realism, and the streams flow realistically, as do the bubbles and splashes. Shadows are realistically placed. The con to this game, if any, is the sometimes uncooperative camera, and the predetermined save points. Although, playing the levels more than once is enjoyable. I have 128mb ram, a tnt2 video card, a 40x cd rom, and digital sound card, with pIII 500mhz processor. runs perfect, no glitches.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice gameplay, February 1, 2000

Rayman is so cool, but it is really challenging. It is definetly not a blood blasting gore fest like some dumb arcade games, but not little bunnie learns to read either. The only problem I find is it gliches up a lot. Also I hate the fact that you move Rayman with the camara so you can't get a side shot of Rayman running, but the camara controles pretty much make up for that. all in all Rayman is a great game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Platform Game For The Family, February 19, 2004

This review is from: Rayman 2: The Great Escape (CD-ROM)
Journey with Rayman as he ventures through more than 40 different levels ranging from mini several minute bursts to hour long conquests filled with marvelous, graphical scenery that will leave you breath taken and wanting another serving. With bonus levels, great music that put you into the mood of the game, and great accomplishments to meet, the game could be viewed as one of the best platform games ever created.

Of course there is a bad side to this of course. The game's camera angles can be confusing and uncooperative many times. Having a gamepad is almost a must-have for the full enjoyment of the game unless you really get use to the keyboard controlls, which is not that hard but tricky, or you're up for a lot of wrist pains trying to maneuver Rayman successfully. The main downside, for most players, is the save option, which is very strick, but isn't as bad if you think about the save points during each level in the level. Oh yeah, the controls can't be changed!

But other than that, this is a game in which every player should experience one time or another.

This is a great game on many levels - but has a terrible structure for all but the most hardcore of time-losing gamers. So your only options are to either play through the entire level (some take hours), or quit part of the way through and start over at a later date. If you don't have lots of time to dedicate to this game, then you should steer clear. The sanctuary of lava, for example, requires at least 2 hours to clear properly - and remember NO SAVING! It's too bad that such a wonderful game has such a fatal flaw.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Game Saved Me, March 12, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rayman 2: The Great Escape (CD-ROM)
While I do agree with most people that Rayman should have remained a 2-D vigeogame series, this is the very best possible attempt at making him in a 3-D game! I was extremely pleased with this game.

This game, which looked just as beautiful when it came out as it does now, features Rayman escaping from a prison ship and traveling across miles of vast lands and enviroments in his search for four masks to help him defeat the leader of an army of space pirates, who have enslaved the planet. Along the way you'll run into friends, some of which you must rescue, who will often grant you new cool powers. The camera is never a problem in this game, and the levels are all awesome fun. Die-hard fans of the original will be pleased to note that there are still cages to find and smash in this game, and they even look exactly as they do in the original Rayman (except 3-D).

As far as music and sound is concerned, I say that Ubi-Soft always composes the best music. Them and the people who did Shadow of the Colossus. There's no question about it, I have never found a Ubi-Soft game where the music wasn't spectactular and helpful in making the game that much more enjoyable. When Rayman interacts with his friends, they speak a form of gibberish to each other with subtitles of the language of your choice on the bottom. This is a lot more entertaining than having them actually speak a real language.

The only thing this game left me without was seeing more of the characters from the original game, and a 3-D version of some of the levels from that game would be amazing; who wouldn't want to be able to jump all over instruments or go in dark spooky caves in 3-D?

Since I gotta wrap this up I'll just say that anyone who wants a good adventure game should definitely get this game. For the record, this game is way better than Rayman 3 and all the games that game after. And with Rayman 2's low price, what do you have to lose?
