5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and fun!, July 9, 2004

I have this on the cube and it so funny and fun! It is short and easy sadly but it is (...)fun to replay and you may understand more jokes! Don't trust those people who say "Oh this isn'y the same as Rayman2" or "Oh this is too hard for a five year old!" I think it is a good thing that is differnt from rayman2!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good addition to Rayman PS2 series, oh, the colors.., July 18, 2003
This review is from: Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc (Video Game)
Rayman 3 takes a mild leap up in game play from Rayman 2. It is very fun, VERY addictive, and kid friendly. The game is short if you blaze through it & decide not to go for 100% completion.

The GREAT:
-The colors and music are absolutely outstanding.
-The voices and dialogue are entertaining (John Leguizamos voice as Globox is classic).
-The game play is about identical to the rest of the earlier Rayman series.

The Not-so-Great:
-Same (sometimes) frustrating camera angles happen as Rayman 2.
-The 'Lock on' mechanism during a fight sometimes really messes up the camera angle if there are other non-combatants in the area.

The Bottom Line:
-Very fun, well worth the lowered price.
-As will all platformers this year, it can't hold a candle to Ratchet & Clank.

Ever since playing the ds version of this game I have been a fan at the rayman series. The levels and enviroments have extrodinary color, detail, and imagination. I also love the characters and the storyline which makes this game worth every penny.

Rayman 3 isn't bad. What are you people saying? This is a great game. You can unlock mini-games when you are bored with the game or finished it.You have power ups like the rocket launcher that if you hold the square button you can see where it'going and even control it.It has some flaws that it isn't that challenging but it still deserve's the 5 star i gave it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Graphics are stunning, but something's missing., July 27, 2003

I bought Rayman 3 because I adored Rayman 2, but I felt disappointed with this game, although it has truly amazing graphics. My major complaint is that the game gets really boring and frustrating after a while, because you keep repeating the same actions again and again (fighting bosses, jumping etc.), and the storyline did not attract me.
It's more difficult than Rayman 2.. but not more attractive to play. After a while I lost the incentive to keep going.

I feel this game is mostly for children. But it is made with care, that's for sure. If you're new to this genre, and enjoy great, detailed graphics, then maybe this is something for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Rayman 2, but still a great title, May 1, 2011

Rayman 3 isn't as memorable as Rayman 2, but it's a good game. The voice acting is PERFECT. Murphy was one of my least favorite characters in Rayman 2, but because of the brilliant writing and voice acting in Rayman 3, he's my favorite. The game is just a bit too easy, though.

Okay, so games like "Rayman Arena" and "Rayman Brain Games" aside, this is the third game in the Rayman series.

I remember I first played the game back in 2005. I loved Rayman in the 90's and early 2000's, then I just kind of lost interest. Not for any real reason, but you can only play the same few games so many times in a row. I was at the local Blockbuster here and I was surprised to see a Rayman 3 had come out. I automatically had to rent it, then I found myself ordering a copy the next day.

Right when I turned the game on and watched the music video the game opens up with, I knew right away this game was kick-ass.

Animation (5/5):
The animation is beautiful. It's really stunning for even today's games, never mind when it was first released. It is so colorful and smooth looking. Definitely the best animation out of all the Rayman games (so far anyways).
This game is also more fast-paced than Rayman 1 & 2. It's almost as if it is more adult-oriented than the other Rayman games. It doesn't contain vulgar language or blood and gore, but Rayman has a bunch of new power-ups, and the bosses are much more challenging. This game really requires you to use your thinking cap in many ways, so I wouldn't buy it for anyone under 7.

Dialogue (4/5):
The humor in the dialogue of the game is hilarious, which we didn't really get in the other games. Funnier things happen, people argue in funny ways, ect. Globox also has a new voice actor, who did a really good job. He sounds nothing like the Rayman 2 Globox, but he is truly hilarious.

Audio/Music (5/5):
The audio is all superb. Most of the sound effects in the game are brand new, and are a lot more realistic than the sound effects on the previous games. All the music is new, and it is beautiful. It is in much higher quality than on the other games, and sounds much clearer. Also, unlike in the other Rayman games, the music seems to pertain to the levels it is put in. If you took the music from one level and placed it in a different one, it just wouldn't make sense. You can tell the music was composed specifically for each level it was put in.

Level Design (5/5):
Now on to the level design itself. As I stated, the levels require much more thinking than in the past. Each and every single level in this game is designed so differently. They are so versatile and different from each other that it is basically impossible to get bored with this game. Rayman 1 had pretty upbeat, beautiful animation. Rayman 2 was beautiful, but in a more dark way. Rayman 3 returns to the bright animation of Rayman 1, being more upbeat than dark (though there are some dark spots).

New Power-Ups (5/5):
So there are a lot of new power-ups. They are in the form of a can (called "combat fatigues"), and you can only have them at certain parts of the game. Sometimes the cans are already there, sometimes the Teensies give them to you, and sometimes you must earn them by defeating enemies.
The first one is a super punch. It gives you metal fists so you can knock enemies right out and punch down doors.
The next one is a whirlwind punch. You can use this to kill enemies on stilts and bring down surfaces to jump on.
One of the coolest ones is a claw fist. You use this one to swing from the hoops (know as "Purple Lums" in previous Rayman games) to get you from place to place.
Another one is a temporary flying one. You can fly up as far as you can until the power runs out.
The last "combat fatigue" is the aim and shoot one. You can shoot a torpedo-like object and aim it to hit switches, targets, or enemies.
The last one is kind of new, but at the same time it isn't. It doesn't come in the form of a combat fatigue. In Rayman 1, you can make a funny face to scare some enemies. You don't have this power at all in Rayman 2. In Rayman 3, you don't aquire it until about halfway through the game. You use it to turn a black lum into a red lum for health (after you defeat an enemy).

Improvements from other Rayman games:
One thing I like about this game that is different from the other games is dying in a level. It is actually extremely hard to die. For instance, if you fall into lava in Rayman 2, you die instantly. In Rayman 3, if you accidentally fall into lava but jump out quickly, you won't die. You can possibly lose some health, but getting out alive is easy.

There are also targeting improvements in this game. Rayman 1 didn't really need it since it was 2-dimensional, but that was one problem in Rayman 2. You just had to shoot and hope for the best. Here, however, when you are near an enemy a circle and arrow on the enemy is there to let you know you have targeted them. You can also throw a curve punch in either direction.

Overall, my rating is 5/5. This is without a doubt my favorite installment of the Rayman series. If you like kick-ass platformers, it will be hard for you to not like this game. Hope you have enjoyed my review!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but a letdown after Rayman 2, December 6, 2004
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc (Video Game)
The graphis are great. The gameplay is smooth. This game is not really much of a challenge. While Rayan 2 had me on the edge of my seat this turkey was way too easy to negotiate. Hopefully if there is a Rayman 4 it will be worth the money.
