5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise... November 30, 2011
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii|Edition:Standard with Amazon Exclusive Art Book
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I'll admit it. I have never played a Rayman game in my life. The Raving Rabbids series of games didn't really spark my interest in doing so either. But over the course of months, I've heard nothing but good things about the upcoming Rayman Origins game. And shortly after its release, nothing but great scores and reviews of this seemingly old-school throwback to the retro platformers of old. (but souped up for today's playing clientele!) I saw it for the Wii for 29.99 just after Black Friday and I thought to myself: "Why not?" So I took it home and popped it in and playing straight through the next two days getting about 90% of everything the game had to offer. And all I got to say is: Wow, that was the most fun I've had in a long time!
The artstyle is gorgeous animated graphics, supposedly hand-drawn and animated in-game. Bright colorful hues abound in this game making it cheery (for the most part) and quite agreeable to kids. For the most part, the platforming is quite easy and you could easily beat the game within a day or two with no real problems minus a jarring difficulty spike towards the end. But nothing some skill, determination and some practice will solve. No...the real challenge comes from getting 100%, opening up the secret SECRET level and rushing Time Attack challenges. That is where the game turns from relatively easy to brutally punishing. I believe I spent the better of 2 hours just trying to beat the Time attack on 'Mecha No Mistake!' level. My wrists were screaming after that ordeal!
The flow of the game is actually quite smooth. They introduce each new concept one at a time, give you a level or two to sort out how to effectively use said concept/gimmick before introducing yet another one a level later.

5.0 out of 5 stars More 2-d platformers please December 11, 2011
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii|Edition:Standard with Amazon Exclusive Art Book
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Normally I would just rate this and be gone, but dismal sales totals are really bumming me out. This is a great game. Anyone who grew up in the golden age of platformers will absolutely love this game. It is funny, it looks great-- it really takes me back to sega genesis's Earthworm Jim. This is the closest in the video game market to Earthworm JIm that you can get, and if you played Earthworm Jim that is a very, very good thing. I wont say much on game play because the more detailed review above does a great job of that, but I will say that if you are a younger player or an older player sticking it out in an era where fps's threaten to take over the world, the few platforming gems that eked through with good sale numbers, Donkey Kong Country returns, Super Mario Bros wii, that this game is every bit as good as those. You can play single player and all the way up to 4 players. It is a great party game. Entertaining to watch even if you aren't playing. And most importantly of all, bears no resemblance besides sharing the comedy genre to Raving Rabbids (though I don't mean to knock that game too hard, I enjoyed it for group gatherings). So for Christmas, if you are searching for a game to buy for a wii owner whom you know has either already bought skyward sword, your extra generous and want to buy it for your friend/family member/lover or you just know that it's time for the family to dust off your wii and give it another chance, this is the game to buy on any console. This game is a guaranteed hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars 58 year old woman loves Rayman! September 2, 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii|Edition:Standard with Amazon Exclusive Art Book
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I've got to say, Rayman Rocks! That's not typical lingo for a 58 year old female professional, but in my down time I do love to join my husband in his addiction to video games. We had so much fun playing Mario Galaxy games and wanted something two could play. Along came Rayman! My husband's skills are light years beyond mine, so in Mario I was content to be the Super Star Scooper beginning to end. (I tried to play myself and couldn't get beyond the 25th star. There's NO WAY with my busy work life I'll EVER have the time to excel in video games!) In Rayman, I immediately discovered he needed me, and I was pleased to see that we were both earning points (he is always way ahead, but that's okay). A good time was had by all! Thanks.
