4.0 out of 5 stars Rayman's Finest Adventure is Stepping Out One Last Time December 21, 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
When Rayman Origins debuted on the console in 2011, it didn't exactly debut big. Gamers seemed a little apprehensive about paying sixty dollars for a platformer of its kind. Strong word of mouth has actually helped the console variants get some much needed success. Still underplayed, but at the very least the word of mouth was strong. 3DS owners now have a chance to experience this game for themselves in what will probably be the last release of the game. The differences between this one and the console versions are quite small, though.

Since the difference is so minor there isn't much that can be said here that hasn't already been said before. And thus this review isn't going to be that different than the one I already posted before:

As you can imagine there's pretty much no plot to Rayman Origins. And beyond that, Origins isn't really about any origin whatsoever. Rather the "origin" refers to how Rayman used to be. A 2D Side Scrolling Platformer. In other words, Rayman gets back to its roots. There are no raving rabbids here. Just pure amazing level design. The game is incredibly simple in its mechanics and that's part of what really makes it work. Just about anyone can pick up the game and learn the basics of the mechanics. Mastering the game, however, is another story entirely.

The game begins simple. The first level is inviting. And when you first begin you'll soon earn the ability to punch before later on getting other abilities such as the ability to fly or shrink later on. The game paces itself well by holding back on most of your abilities. Only giving them to you when you rescue certain characters. And mostly making sure you utilize them well in the environment they introduce them in. The learning curve in Rayman is almost non-existent.

Title say's it all! An excellent port to the 3ds. Almost the same thing as the the other version's that are offered for the console system's. There a few difference's but besides that it's a very fun game to play! :)

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't really like it all that much on the 3DS April 25, 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I found Rayman Origins a nightmare to play on my 3DS. The game itself is absolutely beautiful, soundtrack and graphics, and I could play it for hours because it's that fun. However, everything is TINY, and that's where the enjoyment stops - You're going to strain your eyes big time playing it on a screen this small. I'm really glad I rented it from GameFly, and am going to send it back tomorrow. This is one for your TV, and maybe the XL version of the 3DS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still a great game! January 14, 2015
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
I've gushed over this game a number of times on my review of the console/PC versions, and now that there is a portable edition that I can take with me on my 3DS, how could I possibly say "No"?! Now, this 5-Star rating isn't actually for everybody to follow; if you own a PS Vita, skip this and grab a copy of Rayman Origins for that handheld instead; as far as I can tell, it's a perfect direct port of the big-screen counterparts. This port has a number of small-to-moderate technical issues; the frame rate's cut in half, there's no multiplayer, the music isn't as crisp, and there are even a few times where the music halts to the sound of nothingness. Regardless, if you own a 3DS, and want to play this fantastic game on the go, then it's worth your time and money.

As for the game itself, Rayman Origins bursts with superb level design, colorful graphics, and a vibrant and catchy soundtrack! Although the 3DS version may not have the super-smooth 60 FPS of the console game, the visuals still impress me, as the entire game looks like a lush cartoon, and goes as far as to play like one, too!

The gameplay is initially pretty simple: You run, jump, and collect shiny yellow Lums. However, like any great game, you will be introduced to more powers such as punching, gliding, and even running on walls! The levels reflect upon these cool abilities you obtain as the game progresses, and they're full of some of the best platforming challenges out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice quick-paced platformer July 24, 2013

If Mario isn't enough platforming action or you just wanna run up walls, then you need this game. I feel like it is at quicker pace than Mario and while you don't have power-ups like Mario, you gain new abilities as you progress. It has plenty of challenging levels with timed runs as well. There are also side-scrolling shooter sections that are kinda like Gradius but you don't have power-ups and you have to bounce your projectiles to open gates or take out enemies. It also allows two players, so you screw over your buddies by leaving them in the dust because you will have already been playing this game for hours before you call up your friends.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great game, but not on the 3DS. June 6, 2013

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I got this because I REALLY loved it on the PC and wanted a portable version so I could play it anytime. Unfortunately, while the game is still fun and whimsical, the porting job to the 3DS is pathetic.

First off, the graphics are much lower resolution, which is to be expected, but the framerate is cut in half. The 3DS is obviously capable of producing 60 FPS games, as shown my Mario Kart 7, and that's a fully 3D game. This is a 2D, hand-drawn sidescroller, so the 3DS should easily be able to do 60FPS. Even the Wii version is 60FPS, and that isn't even as powerful as a 3DS.

My absolute biggest gripe with this version is the sound. Audio files are horribly compressed and screechy, and it's easy to tell when the audio loops, which is distracting. Audio levels are also completely erratic. Sometimes the music will be WAY too loud, almost completely drowning out the sound effects, and sometimes it will be almost too quiet to hear.

Another minor quirk is that they made this version a lot easier. Coins are now worth 40 lums instead of the regular 25, and there are noticeably less enemies. This is fine for kids who are bad at games, but I personally wanted the challenge of the regular game, which is absent in this one.

Even if you're dying for a portable version of this incredible game, the 3DS version should be avoided at all costs. If you have a PS Vita, check out that version, as I'm sure it's miles better than this one. If you haven't played the game at all and are looking for the best version, go for either the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions. I very, VERY highly reccomend playing this game, ecpecially since it's so cheap ion Amazon, but the 3DS version is too badly butchered to recommend.

Great game! Critics say it's a 9 out of 10 on other gaming devices and not as good on the 3ds, but I say it's great no matter what device it's played on!
