Product Description

Editorial Review

Many of the games in the budget-priced Greatest Hits series are showing their age, but Rayman's old-school 2-D technology ironically gives it an edge in terms of longevity. This still is one of the most beautiful, fun, and imaginative side-scrolling platform jumping games ever released.

You control the now-famous Rayman, a strange character with no arms or legs (although he has feet and hands) and a propeller on his head. Some may look at this as just another game where players run around and jump all the time, but the charming graphics and incredibly tight controls elevate Rayman into special territory. The difficulty level is just right at the beginning, letting players get a feel for Rayman's basic moves. Later levels require more advanced tricks and precise jumps, but the game is never unfair--something few 2-D side-scrolling games can claim. If you can get past the too-cute graphics and see them for the lush, imaginative visuals they are, the gameplay should keep you hooked for days. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Imaginative graphics and smooth animations
  • Tons of levels to explore
Cons:
  • 2-D confines can make things a little dull after hours of play

Product Description

Enter the challenging world of Rayman and suddenly reality seems far too tame. Free your mind as Rayman takes you on an arduous adventure through a complex realm of psychedelic landscapes, absurd characters, formidable oppents, and uncharted levels of dementia.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Classic Rayman!, August 30, 2000
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rayman (Video Game)
This game might be 2D, about 4 years old (This game premeared on Sega Saturn), and the idea is kinda strange, but this is a GREAT game! At first it starts out quite easy (You'll beat the first 5 levels in less than 2 minutes) but soon you're wondering if there is a way to beat the game. Heck, before you know it you'll buy the stratigy guide to try and figure out what to do next. This game has given me more of a challange in gaming than Lara Croft did in Tomb Raider. I highly recomend this game. Now where is a copy for Dreamcast? Huh, Sega?

4.0 out of 5 stars A magical little platformer, February 29, 2000

Rayman's a total trip! Sure, the graphics aren't 3D, but the animation is beautiful! The gameplay is very good as well, with solid control and plenty of fun tasks such as finding captive energy bits and one-ups. If you're a fan of this sort of game, regardless of age, you'll love Rayman! Heck, it's four years old, and I'm STILL playing it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sidescrollers on the PS1 don't get much better than this!, March 9, 2005
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rayman (Video Game)
Rayman is a classic game released in the Playstation's early years. And it's still a great game!

Gameplay:10/10: Sidescrolling joy! You are Rayman, an armless, legless, neckless thingy, who has to save his world after the evil Mr. Dark takes over it. You will need to free your caged friends in all of the huge worlds to get to Mr. Dark's layer. You also get powers, such as punching, helicopter, and more! You also fight tough bosses like Space Mama!

Challange:10/10: It's HARD! And only 5 continues! But here's a hint: If you have less than 3 continues, press up, down left, and right on the continue screen to get 10 extra continues!

Graphics: 10/10: They are colorful, and I mean COLORFUL! Bright, cartoonlike 2D graphics. The best of the PS's 2D graphics!

Sound: 9/10: It sounds great!

Music: 10/10: I love the music. My favorite tune is the music on certai levels on the Cave of Skops!

So if you have a PS, and are looking for a chalanging sidescroller, look no further!
