5.0 out of 5 stars Nobody brings down the Rayman platformers...not even the Rabbids
Rayman has always been Ubisoft's best mascot. He's been in games that have been considered some of the greatest platformers of all time (Rayman 2). While Rayman has still been moving around in 3D games, he still ventures through 2D platformers on handheld releases, such as Rayman 3 and Hoodlum's Revenge for Game Boy Advance. Rayman has usually had a good track record over the past few years, and when Rayman Raving Rabbids was released on the launch of the Wii, it helped show what Nintendo's new system was capable of. It has been subsequently released on other systems with varying results, and now it's on the GBA too. Trading the collection of whacky mini-games for a tried but true platformer, Rayman Raving Rabbids is boring and uninspired, which is quite disappointing considering Ubi Soft's mascot has made for some good adventures on the GBA. The best feature of the game is that Rayman himself looks great and there are colorful and fluid graphics throughout, but beyond that the game is a dud. The game's 25 stages are relatively easy to get through and offer little in the way of a challenge or decent level design either. The platforming elements are marred by sloppy control mechanics, and the whacky Rabbids that made the console versions so great are hardly used to their extent here. Not to mention that the mini-games, which the console versions relied upon so much to make them so good, are shortened in between stages and aren't nearly as fun as anything to be found on the other versions as well. All in all, Rayman Raving Rabbids is an overly boring and uninspired platformer that doesn't nearly do the character the justice it should. Plus, with so many other, superior, platformers available for the GBA, this is better left on the shelf.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Rayman Platforming, January 1, 2012

The GBA version of Raving Rabbids is nothing like the console versions. Rather than a mini-game collection, it's a throw-back to the older platforming Rayman games. The Rabbids are there, but they are now generic bad guys and lose a lot of their charm. The rest of the game feels like a remix of the original Rayman games.

So basically, if you liked the old school Rayman games (or the new Rayman Origins game) you might like Raving Rabbids. If you're looking for a GBA version of the console Raving Rabbids game (i.e. a bunch of mini games) this isn't what you're looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nobody brings down the Rayman platformers...not even the Rabbids, April 24, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rayman Raving Rabbids (Video Game)
Rayman has always been Ubisoft's best mascot. He's been in games that have been considered some of the greatest platformers of all time (Rayman 2). While Rayman has still been moving around in 3D games, he still ventures through 2D platformers on handheld releases, such as Rayman 3 and Hoodlum's Revenge for Game Boy Advance. Also over the past few years, the Rabbids came and, according to some Rayman fans, stole the show. While the Rabbids games were funny at first, the humor began to grow stale later on. So how does this Game Boy Advance version of the first Rabbids game hold up?

Well, as soon as you press Start on the title screen, you hear the Rabbid's famous scream as he shakes back and forth rapidly. I cracked up there, but that was really a false impression. There isn't really any humor elsewhere in the game, other than the final boss, in which you hear the scream again every time you hit the boss. The game was supposed to be a not-so-hilarious-but-fun platform game, anyway, so this is only a minor complaint.

As Rayman, you advance through levels in a traditional 2D Rayman platformer. It's very easy at first, but of course, the challenges pop up later on. It is pretty fun, like all Rayman platformers out there. There are also some cool new features, such as the ability to switch into different goofy-looking costumes for special powers. There are also some bonus levels that differ in one of these three gameplay types: Platforming, fake 3D racing, or shooting gallery.

The bosses, once you know what to do (And you WILL know what to do) are very easy to beat (except for the final boss). All you have to do is wait as the boss to keep trying to hit you until the boss exposes himself so you can be able to attack. Actually, to think of it, It's the same boss character over and over again. The only different boss is, again, the final boss, in which it's a Mecha Rabbid.

The game is actually shorter than I expected (5 worlds), but it still manages to be as fun as other Rayman games. The ending is also very stupid and rushed (There isn't even a credits sequence), but you can easily ignore it.

So overall, it's not a bad game, and it lives up to the other Rayman games very well. I would have liked it if the comedy from the console versions translated to this version, but if you can get past that flaw, you will have a neat 2D Rayman experience. This is also probably the best version of Raving Rabbids you can find, since it's your average 2D Rayman game.

I bought this game for my daughter for her 11th birthday because she loves the Rayman game for the Wii. She was very excited to play this on her Gameboy Advance and has enjoyed playing it. She says it's fun and she is very entertained by it, so I would say it is a success!

4.0 out of 5 stars Silly Fun!, January 17, 2009

This review is from: Rayman Raving Rabbids (Video Game)
My 8YO bought this awhile ago. He still loves it. He says it is not the hardest game he's played, but that it is very fun. He did say that the version on his friend's Wii is a little better, but that he was very happy to have this game and that it makes him laugh a lot. If you like silly fun, this is a great game!
