Product Description

Since its founding by its namesake in 1976, Raymond Weil draws inspiration from major musical works to create elegant and cutting-edge timepieces. Named after the Wagner opera, the signature Parsifal collection balances symmetry and harmony with a powerful, valiant outlook befitting of the opera's hero. The Don Giovanni collection, named after Mozart's comedic opera, blends daring design with advanced technical prowess, and the Don Giovanni Cosi Grande mechanical chronograph is hand assembled by Raymond Weil's finest watchmakers. Over the years, Raymond Weil has introduced a number of other series that helped the company become an enigmatic leader of the Swiss watch industry, including the Othello, with its discreet design that emphasizes strength of character and uncompromising beauty, and the sophisticated, color-stained-crystal Traviata.

Based in Geneva, Switzerland, Raymond Weil watches are manufactured entirely in the Swiss watchmaking universe. The company's signature motto--"Independence is a state of mind"--is a reminder of its desire to conceive timepieces that are different, elegant and modern, while at the same time displaying all the rigor of watchmaking excellence.

Raymond Weil S.A. turns 30 years old in 2006. This relative newcomer to watchmaking circles has already defined a niche for itself. Its Parsifal line, launched in 1991, is easily recognizable and enjoys considerable success. Named for classical and operatic music, Raymond Weil's watch collections are simultaneously modern and classical, embellished with luxurious touches like sapphire cabochons on the crown, luminescent pearls on the dial, and ideal-cut diamonds on the bezel. In recent years, the watchmaker has moved further upscale with introductions of mechanical movements and complications. Stainless steel case and bracelet, push button deployant clasp, grey dial, Chronograph feature (hours, minutes, seconds), luminous hands and hour markers, Day and date displayed at the 3 o'clock position, water resistance up to 330 feet( 100 meters).

My husband collects Disney watches and has wanted a luxury watch for years. He has a nice Seiko watch but the band keeps coming apart and the electro plating is wearing off and pitting so he doesn't wear it.

I've looked at different watches over the years with him for something that was within our budget, and that was stylish yet conservative. He never liked any of the other chronographs because the dial was always too busy. However the alignment of the minutes and hours dial on the Freelancer works quite well. The watch components come together very well in this watch to make it stylish without making it look like a sports watch.

He also loves the way the band fits. It doesn't pull the hair on his arms or hurt his wrist. A break and a couple of wrist surgeries have made his wrist sensitive in some areas. The clasp on the band is secure and he is not worried about losing it like he does with some of his other watches. The back of the watch is transparent, and I catch him looking at the internal mechanisms quite frequently. So far he has claimed that the accuracy is very good and has yet to reset the time. His only complaints about the watch have been very minor. He was hoping for a watch that had a window on the face so that he could see the internal mechanisms.
Based on what we have read and seen, we couldn't pass this watch up.
    In summary:

    Pros:
    Style
    Chronograph dials
    Band
    Size
    Heft
    Accuracy
    Transparent case back

    Cons:
No window on the dial face to see the internal mechanisms

This is an excellent watch that met my expectations. First of all the price is twice lower than a retail. Secondly, quality is in the same range as other mid-luxury watches like tag heuer carrera / tudor / Longines / Oris / you name it.. Third, grey dial with blue arrows makes it exceptional versus the regular but on the other side keeps it easy to match with both, sporty and classy looks. Strap structure also makes it exceptional versus same class similar model (mentioned above, most of those have 3 joins horrizontally as this has 5). Last thing size is just right: big enough to match the current watch size trend and not too big to keep it comfortable and still maintain the fine proportions on a thinner wrist. Note that this brand does not keep value within second hand versus same class watces with richer history (raymond weil is only 30 years young). Overall, Highly recommend!

This is the first Raymond Weil watch that I have owned. This is a substantial watch as one would expect with the following complications: sweep second hand, 30 minute dial, 12 hour dial, day and date. The photos on the website don't do the watch justice, as it has a very sharp and polished appearance with blue second hand and secondary dial hands. The grey face brightly sets off the markings at each hour position as well as the hour and minute hand and chronograph dials. The back has a viewing window which is a really nice touch.

I have only had the watch for a couple of days, so although it seems to keep accurate time, I will need to see if that is the case in the long run. From my perspective, this is a very good value in a fine Swiss made automatic watch.
