The LED technology is better than most LED flashlights available today: meaning, it runs a long time for the amount of light output with just 2 AA batteries, and, the shade of white light is very good. (When buying an LED light, always be sure to get one with natural white light. Do not get one with too much blue tint. Blue light scatters too much for us humans.)
The difference in light output on the high output position down to the low output is excellent. The low output is 18% of the high. Too many are about 50%.
The light beam angle is narrow. This is good if you need to shine things at 40 feet and beyond, but, to use inside your home, garage, attic, and, any close-up work, the beam angle needs to be larger.
It does not have the strobe function, and, I like that. However, if you need to signal someone at a distance, you can do this by pressing the switch part way in and release repeatedly real fast, but, do not press far enough to cause the light to switch from the high output mode to the low and vise versa.
It is built very tough, it will take a lot of bouncing, even with the light on, and the light will not "go out" like the old standard incandescent bulbs.
It is only 6.5 inches long.
LED is the only way to go for flashlights:
- They use only 1/4 to 1/8 of the battery life as the incandescent flashlights, for the same light output; meaning you will buy less batteries.
- The "bulb" never burns out.
- The "bulb" will not burn-out when jarred.
- The recycle centers and landfills will have less dead batteries.
This suites his needs well from accidental drops, rolling around, and can withstand normal abuse vs other cheap, fragile lights.
The rubber on each end of the light is fantastic, seems of high quality to help absorb shocks from falls, rolling off the table, and drops, etc. This is the main reason why I chose this light, it is rated at a 30 foot drop test. While I wouldn't actually attempt to drop it from 30 feet, this light does seem bulletproof from just general drops from the hand, pocket, or rolling off the table at 3-5 feet. Apart from the rubber, the aluminum body has a nice feel to it, much like the old Maglite's, good quality.
For brightness, this also impressed me. This has 2 settings, Low and High. Low being 18 lumens and High being 100 lumens. Great for taking the dog in the backyard at night or on walks, not to mention camping or any other use. I believe the 100 lumen claim, although I don't have a way of measuring lumens.
I can't comment on battery runtime life, it advertises long runtimes, 15 hours on High, 35 hours on Low. Most flashlights have anywhere between 2-8 hours of runtime for 2xAA and around this lumen rating, regardless, I'm satisfied for the price and construction of this light.
These are sold at Home Depot for $15, for this price, this is a highly recommended buy. Built very well, can withstand abuse normal flashlights can't, and is reasonably bright, brighter than I actually thought it would be. (It's not the brightest flashlight I have, but I also spent over $100 on my other light, a Fenix TK-41)
5 stars, built tough, 2 brightness settings, standard AA batteries found everywhere, very low priced compared to other flashlights in its class at $15.
The light weighs a bit over 5 ounces, but is just shy of 7 ounces with 2 Rayovac AA batteries installed. I love the fact that I can get such brightness (100 lumens) using easily replaced power cells rather than having to use a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. For me, it provides certainty during extended power outages when portable lighting becomes most important.
I haven't tested the "Indestructible" claim in the flashlight name, but neither do I doubt it. The entire front 1.5" and the rear 1" are covered with a hard rubber coating that is still pliable enough to obviously absorb impact shocks if dropped. The body casing seems to be made of cast aluminum that is about 3/16" thick. Overall, a sturdily constructed piece.
BRIGHTNESS AND SETTINGS
There is an on-off button switch at the end of the light. Press once = high-beam; press it once more for "off" and again right away (within about 2 sec.) for "low-beam". I would estimate the brightness of the low setting to be about 20% of max. The button has a firm feel to it, so I presume it is a sturdy a component as the rest of the light.
The brightness of the light will surprise you (as well as oncoming motorists if you're not careful where you point it).Read more ›

These are my favorite flashlights. Rugged and they run on 2 AA batteries. I would say the lumen rating is accurate, unlike most of the lights in this price range.Published 1 month ago by T. Thomas
