5.0 out of 5 stars Best batteries
Best of both worlds ... Power of NiMH and able to store for extended periods like (but not as long) alkaline. 44 bucks is too much, available at Walmart for 12 bucks. :-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy it for the Rayovac Hybrid (but dump the charger ASAP)

This review is from: Rayovac PS324BW Battery Charger for AA and AAA Batteries (Electronics)
This package includes four rechargeable NiMH batteries (2x AA + 2x AAA) plus a simple charger. The batteries are the new Rayovac "Hybrid", which are advertised to have very low self-discharge rate similar to the better-known Sanyo Eneloop.

The capacity of Hybrid AA cell is rated at 2100mAh, slightly higher than that for the eneloop (2000mAh). I have tested both brands and can confirm that their ratings are accurate. The Hybrid AAA cells, however, were tested to be slightly lower than the rated 800mAh capacity. In my 5-month self-discharge test, Sanyo eneloop retained about 85% capacity, while Hybrid kept about 80%. For all practical applications, the two brands are equally good. So the Rayovac Hybrid could be a better value - if you can find it at a lower price than eneloop.

The charger inluded in this package, however, is a piece of junk. It is a timer-based dumb charger that simply charges for 8 hours at around 350mA and then turns off (obviously it was designed to charge 2500-2700mAh cells, because 350*8=2800). It also forces you to charge cells in pairs. Both 'features' are bad for your batteries. The charger included in the Sanyo eneloop package is 'smart', in the sense that it charges each cell independently, and stops when each cell is full.

If you are looking for a travel charger that is smart, compact and reasonably fast, I highly recommend the KODAK K6200.

I am pleasantly surprised at how well these batteries perform. The RAYOVAC HYBRID RECHARGEABLE BATTERY KIT was cheaper than others, recharges faster and lasts longer. A++ Rayovac, Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent all around, April 3, 2009

I've used Rayovac rechargeable batteries for years and have been satisfied. I picked up some new hybrids a with the charger a few months ago and they have also worked quite well. I currently use them in one of my bicycle lights and in one of my wireless mice.

As of yet I haven't noticed any problems -- they seem to work as well as my Rayovacs that I've had for years (which continue to work as well as the day I got them). I'll update if there any problems develop.

While one of the reviewers notes that the charger isn't as complex as some others, I don't take issue with its simplicity (especially since it is basically free, i.e. no additional cost). I typically use my batteries until they are dead so the timed 8 hours of charging will work just fine for the AAs and, as for the AAAs, I will just pull them out after a few hours.

I also am unable to find the same results as another reviewer. If there is a timer that charges the batteries for a fixed amount of time, it isn't set at 24 hours.

I purchased a set of this to see how it works. After 2 months, it still works very well that I had to purchase another one for my brother. Works well & doesn't discharge easily.
