Sheep in Lion's Skin,

This review is from: Rayovac Rechargeable NiMH Batteries, D Size, 2-Count Packages (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
Don't let the hefty size of these Rayovac Rechargeable NiMH Batteries fool you. Each one of the so-called 'D-cell' is simply an AA-cell wrapped inside a larger plastic shell. The capacity is only 2200mAh, which is typical for a NiMH AA cell. So when you use those rechargeable D-cells in your appliances, expect to get only one-quarter of the run time compared to when using alkaline D-cells.
On the positive side, the weight of this rechargeable D-cell (around 2 oz. each) is much less than that of an alkaline D-cell (5 oz). More importantly, using rechargeable batteries instead of disposable will save you money in the long run. So they are still worth considering - as long as you are willing to recharge them frequently. If longer run time is important, you should look for real D-size rechargeable batteries with much greater capacity, such as the CTA D Size 12000 mAh NiMH. Unfortunately, they are also a lot more expensive than those Rayovac D-cells. Don't forget you also need a charger that can accept D-cells. The model I recommend is the Rayovac Universal Battery Charger, which can recharge AA/AAA/C/D and 9V batteries. Another valid approach is to get the Sanyo Eneloop Power Pack, which includes 8 AA cells and 4 each of C- and D-shell adapters. That way, you can use the same AA rechargeable cells in appliances that require larger batteries.

Not worth it...,
By Amy "an1234" (Texas) - See all my reviews

These drain off right away and hardly even have power to perform. Like someone else pointed out they are AA batteries inside. It is actually so light in weight compared to another set I eventually bought and the difference is very clear.
I was expecting more from Rayovac. I disposed the packing otherwise I would have attempted to return the batteries. Total waste of money.

I bought this rechargeable battery because my son's toy (a racetrack) uses 4 D batteries. Everyday, I have to change the batteries because it uses a lot of power, plus he really like this racetrack, and keeps playing with it. And it is not very wise to buy disposable batteries each time. As soon as I fully charged the 4 batteries, I loaded it, and to my surprise, it doesn't have enough power to make the cars jump (while new disposable batteries would run the racetrack and make the cars jump for 3 consecutive hours). If you are looking for power, this isn't the right pick. This might be good for flashlights.

Don't let Ray-O-Vac cheat you!,

This review is from: Rayovac Rechargeable NiMH Batteries, D Size, 2-Count Packages (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
This is typical of the way many businesses try to cheat the customer currently. Many will be fooled by the fact that these batteries are manufactured by enclosing AA batteries in a D Size shell. What do you suppose went through the minds of those that created this product? Were they saying, "Ha! Let's see how many we can cheat by making those who buy these cells think they are getting a higher capacity battery."
If you really want the capacity of a true D cell check out MAHA brand batteries. They don't cheat, and their capacities go from 9000 mAh-11000 mAh. You WILL pay considerably more. But would you rather be fooled? Notice that Amazon went along with the effort to hide the capacity of these batteries. Also, don't pay any attention to the star rating on the reviews. Notice that the posts with a high star rating attempt to downplay attempts to mislead potential customers about the capacity of these batteries. This creates the suspicion that those posts are from sources that wish to market these batteries. What is really galling is that time has to be spent discovering the deception.

I knew that these batteries don't have the capacity of a standard size D battery before I purchased them, but they were much cheaper than the full-capacity batteries. I thought that it didn't matter that much because I could charge them up more often, and I'd still be cheaper than buying lots of alkaline batteries.
I was right... but one thing I didn't realize is that electronics require size D for a reason. They really need a battery with more capacity. We ended up having to charge these much more often than anticipated, and it got to be a pain. But, they do work.. I just wouldn't buy them again.

This item was never delivered. I made several contacts including telephone and e-mail. After one e-mail they sent me a mailer to return the item. I wondered if they knew how to read.
I finally cancelled my order and bought them locally.

these batteries could not even last 8 hours on a full charge. there's no point buying this. COMPLETE waste of money. notified the seller and all they could say was send it back. Even double A batteries last longer than this

Second the other reviews -- check the mAh. I've tried using these in my kids' toys and we're having to recharge within days. Definitely a case of "let the buyer beware." I have the Tenergy batteries in Cs and will be purchasing Tenergy Ds now.

Long lasting,
This review is from: Rayovac Rechargeable NiMH Batteries, D Size, 2-Count Packages (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
We bought these batteries for our newborn's swing and I was surprised how long they have lasted on their first charge. We plan to purchase more of these as he grows older and acccumluates more toys run on batteries. Worth the upfront prices for the long term savings... also great for the envrionment.
