No lo puedo creer - Los Hoodios droppin bombas!,
By
This review is from: Raza Hoodia EP (Audio CD)
The Hip Hop Hoodios are not just some kind of curiosity, some carnival freak show. While the idea of latino-jewish-hip-hop might seem to be a publicity stunt, I can assure you that the Hoodios are no joke. This album contains some of the best latino music I've ever heard. This album contains some of the best hip hop I've ever heard. The Hip Hop Hoodios are talented musicians with great beats and great rhymes - en tres idiomas! My favorite song on here is Kike on the Mic - acoustic sephardic melodies blend with some heavy bass to create a unique and completely awesome sound. I love Dicks and Noses too, although I'm not sure I agree with the ending. It's a little abrupt and doesn't fit well with the rest of the song. Raza Hoodia and Havana Nagila are two great party songs in the latino tradition (although Havana Nagila is actually based off of the jewish Hava Nagilah.) Download them and check them out! You won't regret it. The only song I'm not wild about is Ocho Kandelikas - it has its moments, but the refrain (una kandelika, kandelika/dos kandelikas, kandelikas...) gets a little dull. All in all, a great EP, highly recommended. I'm eagerly awaiting more from Los Hoodios!

I bought this on a whim, after reading a great review of Hip Hop Hoodios in the Miami Herald. Needless to say, what sounded like a bizarre concept (Latino Jews rapping in three languages) is actually a fantastic CD. Very creative and witty - plus the beats are great. If you like the Beastie Boys or De La Soul on a Spanish tip, this is for you. These guys are much "harder" Jewish rappers than MC Paul Barman.

I got this CD with absolutely NO expectations, I really did not even know what it would be when I put in the CD player. From about 10 seconds in I knew this was something I had never heard before. Their music is so fresh and new and their lyrics are so full, you need to listen a few times to keep up with all the fill. I have reccomended this band to so many friends, and not one has told me anything but "awesome". This is one band that deserves to be at the next level!

'Tardcore & More!,

This is probably one of the most fun EP's I've ever heard. Hip Hop Hoodios recorded this album before they had ever even played a show, so the group has grown quite a bit artistically since the recording of "Raza Hoodia" (at least, based on the live shows I've caught and new tracks I've since downloaded). Nevertheless, this CD is a potential blast for fans of both Latin alternative and Jewish hipster music. It's a shame this disc doesn't have the new single "Gorrito Cosmico", but 'Raza Hoodia' still has its insane moments with tracks like "Havana Nagilah" and "Ocho Kandelikas."

Whoa, who knew there was a Latino-Jewish rap group?!?,

I'm not even Jewish, but I'm really feeling what these vato locos are doing. This is a totally fun party record, but they also make you think a bit on some of the more politically-oriented tracks. I'm chicana and was aware that Jewish blood is in many Latino's veins, but this album was a real eye-opener for me. Plus, Hip Hop Hoodios are funny! Definitely an album that demonstrates the diversity of Latino culture.

The New Beastie Boys!,

I caught these guys (and the adorable girl who rocks the stage with them) at Joe's Pub and Makor a year ago. They looked like they were having an absolute blast on stage, and their enthusiasm was infectious. Not only are their lyrics intelligent and hysterical, but the music rocks as well! Definitely check them out.

Party Song of 2002,

It is going to be either Havana Nagila or Raza Hoodia. Both of them are awesome dance tunes with funny lyrics and great beats. I liked Ocho Kandelikas and Kike on the mic as well. Every party I have this year, this EP will be played often.

If there were no lyrics in this sound, I would love it for the music; if there were no music, just words, I would love reading them. This is such intelligence and wit, not just rhymes. One complaint: addictive.

these guys drop some good lines on the EP, but the production kinda sounds like it came out of somebody's garage. I gotta say that the 2nd album AGUA PA LA GENTE is miles beyond!!! tastier beats and guitars!
