5.0 out of 5 stars They sweated the details on this mouse
I'm not a gamer.

I bought this mouse for ergo reasons. And because I spend enough of my life at the computer that there's no reason to have anything other than the hottest equipment.

I switched from the Logitech MX-510, the other hot gamer's mouse series. They're functionally very similar, but the Razer Diamondback has been far superior (for me)...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mouse detection on powerup was hit & miss
It looks and feels nice but due to the excessive power drain of the mouse on startup, the mouse would more often than not, fail to be detected. (The mouse requires high inrush current to start and it would be current limited by the USB port)
I returned it to Amazon and purchased a Logitech MX510 instead and it works flawlessly.

I'm not a gamer.

I bought this mouse for ergo reasons. And because I spend enough of my life at the computer that there's no reason to have anything other than the hottest equipment.

I switched from the Logitech MX-510, the other hot gamer's mouse series. They're functionally very similar, but the Razer Diamondback has been far superior (for me) in practice! Here's the breakdown:

Razer Diamondback pros:
- Better ergo I: Smaller size that fits more naturally in your palm, in better "at rest" position, than the Logitech. (At least for my desk and my hand.)
- Better ergo II: Also, the way your fingers rest on the (slip-proof) main mouse buttons is more relaxed. In particular, it feels like I'm easily using my whole finger. The Logitech in comparison was awkward, felt like I was using only part of my finger, or never quite was settled right.
- More buttons, or at least more buttons available for reasonable use.
- Left and Right side buttons much more comfortable to click.
- More programmable? At least in practice, more easily programmable, so I did customie more.
- Great driver and control panel applet to set options for the mouse. This really helped me get more use out of it.
- Nice work on software details; e.g. "on-the-fly sensitivity" adjustment, without going back to Control Panel, just with controls on the mouse.

Logitech MX-510 pros:
- The Logitech has two buttons, one each above and below the scroll wheel, that mean "keep scrolling in that direction." So you roll the wheel in one direction, and when your finger hits the end of the roll, you can just move to the button right there to say "keep going." Nice. I'll miss that. (But I've already adjusted the scroll speed conveniently several times on the Razer to where I'll miss it less; I never (or at most once?) adjusted the scroll speed on the Logitech.)

These kinds of choices can be very personal. But in my experience, you couldn't get me to go back to the Logitech now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Gaming Mouse, October 12, 2005
This review is from: Razer Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition - Ice Blue (Electronics)
This is the first gaming mouse that I've owned, and I'm really quite impressed with it. Here's why:
- Good size, comfortably fits into your hand
- Light weight and easy to use
- Nice solid buttons that click nicely and fit your hand
- Very precise and responsive movement
- Excellent firm scroll wheel
- Comfortable and easy to use side buttons
- Easily customizable with included software
- Not too pricey (I got mine for about $40)

After using it I have only found one part of this mouse that I dislike. The buttons on the right side of the mouse are not very accessible. The ones on the left side line up perfectly with my thumb, but the ones on the right side don't really line up with any of my fingers. This isn't an issue for me because 5 fully functional buttons is plenty for me, but if you want a mouse with 7 buttons and intend to use them all I wouldn't buy this mouse. Other than that this mouse has been fantastic. =]

4.0 out of 5 stars Most of us probably won't tell the difference., January 25, 2007

I like to game..I like to play shooters, rts', rpgs, etc. So, when my last mouse was showing a little wear and I thought, "why not get a gaming mouse?"

To be honest, I totally noticed a difference going from a ball mouse, to a cheap optical, to my microsoft optical mouse, but not so much going from the microsoft mouse to this one.

Honestly, unless you're the most serious gamer, (and if you're _that_ serious there are probably more expensive, better mice out there)you probably won't tell much of a difference between this one and any other decent optical.

The features it advertises are all true I'm sure, I noticed it's easy to install, doesn't turn off, lots of dpi etc, but buying this mouse isn't going to make many people better gamers. On a side note it felt awkward when I first grabbed it...don't worry if it does, you'll adjust to it in the first sitting.

I like the feel of it, it looks cool, and it works just fine, so I kept it, but I liked my other that cost half as much, just as much. So buy it if it still appeals to you, but don't expect it to save your noob a## from taking a rocket to the face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Mouse, July 11, 2006

I initially bought this mouse for my boyfriend as a birthday present. I read all of the reviews and this one seemed like the best one for the money, and thats exactly what this mouse is. After using this mouse just a weekend, my boyfriend and i both fell in love with it. (I've since bought one for myself) We had none of the problems other people have had with it, the buttons are easy to program and we've never had a problem with it not working. This mouse is great for a variety of games, but we use it primarily on World of Warcraft and Counter Strike. With both games this mouse is perfect. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best gaming mouse out there, period., July 9, 2005

I had a Logitech mx518, but it was not performing to my expectations in games like BF2, so I decided to get a Razer Diamondback. Amazon has this plasma LE for $42, and it usually sells for $60 everywhere else, if you can still find them.

I ordered Thursday before noon, choose standard shipping, and I had the mouse friday by 4pm. Amazing! The mouse itself is flawless, extremely accurate and fast. It comes with a nice lan pack for storage and transport, which I enjoyed a good deal.

The Diamondback is phenomenal, in my hands, it is definitely better than the Logitech. It is lighter, and it fits the hand like a glove, more perfectly than the Logitech.

Now, to performance. It is more accurate for me, and just feels easier to control. I also like the driver software much more than Logitech's, it is overall much more polished. The buttons feel larger and more responsive, although the side buttons are easier on the Logitech to press.

In conclusion, both mice are fairly close, but when it comes to this high level of mice, the small advantages of the Razer Diamonback win out. If I could describe in a few words, it would be "More polished". It just feels slightly superior, although I do recant that the difference is not night and day, just mid-afternoon to late afternoon.

Oh, and aesthetically, the Razer DB wins hands down. The blue LED is beautiful on the mouse, and its shape is more appealing to me then the Logitech. Also, a nice carrying case is included with the DB, which is very useful for transport and keeping the mouse safe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast reactions - shame about the side buttons, December 20, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Razer Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition - Ice Blue (Electronics)
I never thought I would go back to a corded mouse, but my previous logitech was becoming uncomfortable for my hand on extended use. The DB offered a lower profile and less wirst movement due to its fast reactions. The mouse itself looks awesome and glows up blue just like my Saitek keyboard. It is comfortable and fast. My only complaint is the left side buttons which are so small it is difficult to only press one or instinctively press the correct one. A problem for me on games such as BF2 where I use them as hotkeys for prone etc. Good mouse overall though.

4.0 out of 5 stars great mouse - for someone else!, August 9, 2005

It's an excellent mouse, the accuracy and precision are amazing BUT my fingers get claustrophobic sitting in the grooved-out mouse buttons. I also didn't care for the location of the thumb buttons. I had to go back to my MX518 because I found this mouse uncomfortable in my hand. But the quality of the Razer Plasma is top-notch, that's for sure!

4.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional responsiveness, Less than average durability, June 16, 2007
This review is from: Razer Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition - Ice Blue (Electronics)
Diamondback Game Mouse Plasma is probably the most responsive mouse I have ever used. Extemely fast and accurate. However, this is our second one. The first one had the cable detach at the USB connector under minor stress.
I have had other mice that were subjected to similar incidents (and more severe) without giving out. This is a great mouse and I would recommend it.
However,it needs to be handled with a bit more care than the average mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars No problems so far, January 8, 2007
This review is from: Razer Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition - Ice Blue (Electronics)
I purchsed this mouse to use for gaming, mainly Battlefield 2, and others. I used a trackball for the longest time, and wanted to upgrade to a nice optical mouse. This mouse has been great. It is super fast and east to get used to. The left click is a little sensitive, but that can be helpful sometimes. And the LED's look tight.
