5.0 out of 5 stars Razer Kabuto nails it
I have used many mousing surfaces - from Ratzpads, fUnc surface 1030, IceMat, etc. I never preferred the hard, frictionless plastic surfaces; my favorite was an inexpensive "microfiber" mat that gave that feeling of drag and eliminated "shake", but had a few issues with needing constant cleaning, had a slick bottom and needed to be taped down, and was quite small...

I have used many mousing surfaces - from Ratzpads, fUnc surface 1030, IceMat, etc. I never preferred the hard, frictionless plastic surfaces; my favorite was an inexpensive "microfiber" mat that gave that feeling of drag and eliminated "shake", but had a few issues with needing constant cleaning, had a slick bottom and needed to be taped down, and was quite small.

If you are looking for a thin, cloth pad, look no further. The Razer Kabuto is, as far as I'm aware, the first high-quality cloth gaming mouse pad. The size is just about what you'd need, although it could use another inch or two in height. However, since it is marketed as a "laptop" mousepad, I can understand why it's so skinny.

The base is a patterned rubber, and while it does not glue the pad to the table, it should be enough to hold it steady on most desk surfaces. The surface itself is what you'd expect - synthetic microfiber. It's very smooth, and has some friction to it. If you are looking for a surface you mouse will glide across, this is not it. If, however, you want something that will assist you in holding your mouse still with minimal effort, such as when doing pixel-by-pixel art work, or long-distance sniping in any FPS, this is the pad for you.

And at $20, you really can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for laptops! vs. The Steel Series, December 30, 2009

This is a great mouse pad. I don't know how I got along without it. I bought a steel series laptop mouse pad which is thicker than this one by about 3-4mm. This thickness difference makes all the difference in the world in terms of portability. Like another reviewer, I put the pad between my screen and the keyboard for storage and a bit of protection. The Steel Series laptop pad makes it so the magnetic latch can't engage, which makes it awkward. The dimensions compared to the Steel Series fit my Macbook Pro 13" a lot better too. The Kabuto is wider and not as deep (another reason the magnetic latch didn't work with the steel series was that it was too deep to fit.

Also, comparing materials the Kabuto surface has less drag (it's finer woven and feel silkier). In fact the drag amount is perfect for any application.

The price differential between the Steel Series and the Kabuto is about $5 at this time and it's a $5 well spent. As it is I lost my first Kubuto -- no fault of it's own, ordered a Steel series as a replacement and then reordered a replacement Kabuto. I consider the extra $35 I spent to replace the first one a learning lesson: (1) don't forget the mouse pad, and (2) buy the quality item in the first (and in my case) second place!

I also use this mouse pad with a Razer Orochi, which rocks. I should have a review of that up here soon too! They're the perfect combo.

The day I got this mouse mat I instantly fell in love with it. the material is extremely soft and smooth and its extremely thin.
my only problem with the mat is that after only a week or so the portion of the mat under my palm became very rough as if
the material was coming apart. It seems that all the soft material razer mouse mats come apart after usage but then again that can
be due to the gamers who play intensely. In my opinion if your going to invest in a gaming mouse mat you might as well
pay 10 extra dollars and get the Razer Destructor its like any other mouse mat I've ever used and you don't have to worry about the material
getting damage.

This thing is really, really thin. It's good for traveling though. Time will tell how it wears, so it gets 4 stars for now.If you game a lot(which I don't), I can see you wearing a hold in it in no time, but it's not advertised as a gaming pad either. I wasn't expecting a QCK heavy, but I also wasn't expecting something bordering on a triple layer bed sheet either.

i bought a new computer a while back and a new desk. the new fancy super might duper mouse from apple doesnt like my desktop and doesnt move easily and made a horrible scratchy noise - so i realized i needed a mouse pad. i bought one at the local red bullseye store for $10 and it sucked - so i returned it. after spending far too much time on websites reading reviews and on youtube watching people talking about and using their mousepads, i picked this one - it was a nice size, wasn't super expensive and got good reviews. so far (a few weeks in) i like it. it wasn't as miraculous as i had expected - i thought my mouse would effortlessly move across this like a hockey puck on fresh zambonied ice, but it still takes some effort (maybe its the apple mouse?! ) im not a gamer, but would recommend this to anyone who needs a mouse and is willing to pay this much for a nice one that seems like a piece of rubber backed sham-wow.

I got this to use on the go with the Orochi. I mostly play Company of Heroes and Civ 5.

Its a mouse pad it will not make your computer faster or protect it from hackers or emp attacks.

It works fine and fits perfectly in my M11x Alienware neoprene sleeve.

What more do you want from a mouse pad?

I use my laptop primarily from a recliner in my living room. For gaming especially, I like a mouse rather than the touchpad, but needed something that would stay put on the recliner arm. This is perfect for that usage. The back is rubberized and clings in one place and the surface is exactly right to optimize my Razer Orochi mouse's function.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just about perfect, April 14, 2010

I've owned this for a few weeks now, it's mostly stayed on my desktop. If you area using this as a portable mousepad, it does roll up and take up very little space, so it's great for that. Feels great when using it. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't grip the desk quite as well as I like, and since it is such a thin mousepad, sometimes it will "wrinkle" a little, and I'll need to straighten it out again. This is minimal though, I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I had the option.

I believe with the great portability that a product like this offers, this one down side is an inevitable side effect. Overall, I still love the mousepad, though I may buy a bigger razer mousepad to accommodate my larger display.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks and feels great but..., August 28, 2011

First a little background;

Long time gamer, first time buying "pc gaming" products.

This mousepad is incredibly soft, so soft it feels luxurious. However- if you care about performance (like me) then you'll be very disappointed when you use it- because it has terrible tracking. FYI I am using a $10 logitech mouse, a DeathAdder Razer mouse and a Abyssus Razer mouse- all of which had trouble tracking the mouse.

Pros: Soft, sleek, lightweight, thin

Cons: Horrible tracking. Essentially unusable (by gaming standards)

I've only recently begun to use Razer products, and I am already in love with them. I'm not a gamer like I was in the past, but I still demand premium quality from my mouse and mouse surface. The Razer Kabuto mousepad gives me not only comfort but also the performance expected from a mouse pad. The fact that the pad doubles as a screen protector/cloth makes it hat much more of an intelligent product. Coupled with my Orochi mobile mouse, I feel in control of my computer at all times. This is a great product and I highly recommend it.
