I purchased the 'asian' pro gamer edition Salmosa, model number RZ01-0022, which is smaller than the normal version pictured here. This edition does away with the polling switch on the bottom, leaving only a 800/1800dpi selector. I was looking for a small, lightweight mouse for fingertip RTS gaming, and the forums seemed to really recommend the Salmosa.

Razer Salmosa 1800dpi Infrared Gaming Mouse

First off, Razer mice has been growing in popularity among gamers because of their solid products and strong reputation. They offer various gaming mice and peripherals to suit the needs of casual gamers to more experienced or expert gamers.

Previously I used a logitech wheelman mouse (ballmouse) until it broke and have gone through a few other mice before landing on the Salmosa. Some include Logitech g5, and razer Deathadder. I found that the logitech g5 and deathadder suited a palm type grip and it didn't fit my style. They felt too big in my hands (I have small-medium hands) and too heavy. The Salmosa is Razer's entry level mouse but I prefer it over their more costly mice because of how small it is. It fits my 'finger-tip' grip style perfectly and is extremely fast and smooth. The buttons are big and easy to press but not too easy (weight of hand will not accidentally press button) and it makes a defined clicking sound. The top surface has a matte rubberized finish that feels excellent and smooth to the touch. The scroll is more hard to roll than other mice I've used which is what I prefer since I really hate overscrolling in weapon menus.

I'm currently using the mouse with a Razer Goliathus speed edition mouse pad and it glides SO smooth I'm really digging it. I don't think I'm going to change mice for a very long time. I mainly play FPS, CS:S and the mouse is extremely smooth and headshots have become a norm (mouse doesn't make the player but it definitely helps). The liftoff distance is quite low so it won't be a problem for low-sensitivity players. ONLY get this mouse if you use a finger-tip style grip because it is smaller than the average mouse. If this is what you're looking for, don't hesitate!! It hasn't let me down yet.

*UPDATE MARCH 19th 2010*
-So it's almost been a year since I purchased this mouse and I'm glad to say it's stood the test of time! I've played around 5-10 hours a week with this for the past year and it's still as good as before. There is some slight wear in the smooth coated surface but that's a given since I've easily clocked 500+ hours with this bad boy. I use it for normal applications and it works just great!

Have confidence in this mouse, it's never let me down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Salmosa Rocks!, November 25, 2008

This is the best mouse I have ever used. I've had Microsoft, Logitech and even a Razer Death Adder mice, Salmosa is my favorite to date. I play RTS games but mostly Starcraft. This is the most accurate, lightest mouse on the market. No drivers make the set up very simple, plug and play. All of the settings are on dip swtiches on the bottom of the mouse. Hope this review helps. SALMOSA FIGHTING!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mouse, November 17, 2009
This review is from: Razer Salmosa 1800dpi Infrared Gaming Mouse (Personal Computers)
This is a very good mouse for just about any task, not just gaming. Its well shaped, has a soft touch grip, long finger buttons, and a nice sturdy scroll wheel. Everything operates with a nice, confident click or snick. It is very lightweight, and moves across the mouse pad very easily for this reason. Its also very smooth, thanks to the super slippery "glide pads" used on the bottom of the mouse.

The Razer is comfortable for everyday use doing everyday tasks, and I don't find it too small as others have. In fact its longer then my basic Logitech mouse, if not quite as high and egg shaped. It is a very precise mouse, and for that reason is great for gaming if you don't need too many buttons available at your fingertips. This is a 3 button mouse, so is outstanding for first person shooters.

The grip is excellent and the shape very comfortable. You can increase speed and accuracy by flipping switches on the bottom of the mouse (for dpi and polling, respectively), and best yet...it really works. Better speed and accuracy is notable, but it won't make you a better gamer, exactly. Being my first "gaming" mouse what it does do in my estimation is make gaming a smoother, tighter, and more confident experience. Think of it like this...in real life you can aim and shoot at a target and hit it with an ok weapon. But with a great weapon you can aim and shoot and be sure you got the best shot off possible each and every time. You can feel and discern the difference from a lower quality weapon. And this let's you know you are doing the best job possible.

Its the same feeling with this mouse when gaming. It just feels better, plays better, and for a basic 3 button gaming mouse, is in my opinion better then many others with more buttons for its convenient "on the fly" performance features. Its like a Honda when you want it to be and a Ferrari when you need it to be. It also comes with easy to use software to make default performance adjustments (left handed gamers can switch button assignments), and the packaging is first rate. If that matters.

Very nice buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Running Strong, December 30, 2010
This review is from: Razer Salmosa 1800dpi Infrared Gaming Mouse (Personal Computers)
I have had this mouse now for about a year and a half and it has been nothing but perfect the whole time. The feel, the precision, the buttons...everything is great. The scroll wheel is the best I've ever used, the software for customization/tweaking is great, the size of the mouse is perfect (for my hand). I cannot say enough good things about this mouse. It was the best $40 I ever spent.

3.0 out of 5 stars There are better mice for the price, November 8, 2010
This review is from: Razer Salmosa 1800dpi Infrared Gaming Mouse (Personal Computers)

The moment I started using it, it seemed to fit the bill. At 57 grams, it's one of the lightest mice I've used. (The g9x is about 110 g unloaded and the anywhere mouse comes in at 138 g) My hands are probably smaller than average, but this Salmosa even feels pretty small for me.

However, the simplicity of the mouse means that it is relegated to a dedicated gaming mouse. For this purpose, it's great--the left and right click buttons have decent tactile response, as does the scroll wheel. The edges of the click buttons are wavy to form an ergonomic groove for the index and middle fingers. This makes it precisely suited for fingertip gripping. The sensitivity switch is almost perfect for quickly transitioning from Brood War and Starcraft 2, if necessary. There's no extraneous buttons or hyper scroll wheel for you to accidentally press in the heat of battle.

For everyday use though, I find the Salmosa lacking. It doesn't offer the quick sensitivity control of the g9x for photoshop work, and it can't track on glass like the anywhere mouse. It's actually TOO light at times, because sometimes it's good to feel the weight of something moving around. It's also too small for 3 finger usage: resting my middle finger on the scroll wheel and using the ring finger for right clicks resulted in an awkward, cramped hand position. I I ended up getting the g9x for about $40, which is only $10 more than I got the Salmosa for. It's just got so much more functionality, easily making it my all-purpose, everyday mouse.

My mouse also started picking up a lot of dust around the edge of every single sticker on the bottom. This has never happened with any of my other mice, and it's actually beginning to give me tracking glitches. If you've ever had a Logitech mouse break down or malfunction, you can be assured that they'll take care of you with a new replacement for free under warranty--almost no questions asked. Razer isn't nearly as generous.

In short, the Salmosa is a simple, small, lightweight mouse that's okay for gaming. But that's exactly what you get--a 2 button, scroll mouse. I really wondered where my money went, and how it could have gone elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Effective, May 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Razer Salmosa 1800dpi Infrared Gaming Mouse (Personal Computers)
I've had this mouse for about 6 months now, and I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. I bought it in combination with a Razer Goliathus "Speed" edition mouse pad, and they work great together. I mostly play first person shooters on the computer. I wanted a mouse that was simple and comfortable. I was upgrading from a Logitech MX300, so I also wanted something similar in shape to that; I didn't want to have to get used to it too much. This mouse is great for either "palm" OR "claw" style because the buttons are so long. In my opinion, 1800 dpi is plenty for gaming. I have it set to 1800 dpi and 1000 Hz and the response time is great. I will also say that the mouse pad makes a huge difference as well. If you don't already have a gaming mouse pad, I highly recommend getting one also. This mouse is also ambidextrous so you can use it left- or right-handed. The only minor complaint I have is that if you use your whole palm, like I usually do, you may accidentally press the right mouse button with your ring finger while playing - it's just something to get used to. All in all, this is a great mouse and I highly recommend it if you want something simple and effective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gaming Mice Really Do Make a Difference, April 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Razer Salmosa 1800dpi Infrared Gaming Mouse (Personal Computers)
I am always leery of "gaming" products. In most cases they're overpriced identical versions of normal products. For years I'd been using the same Microsoft laser mouse and never thought twice about it. Someone that I actually trusted suggested to me that a lot of my aiming problem in TF2 might be my mouse since I was having to run at 15.6 mouse sensitivity (extremely high) just to be able to look around in any kind of a timely manner. With this mouse I dropped down to 3.7 sensitivity when running at 18000 DPI and it has considerably improved my aim. When I'm not playing TF2/CSS I can flip a switch on the bottom of the mouse (down to 8000 DPI) and it's a perfect speed for normal computer use.

Great product. I honestly don't know how I played FPSes before it.

5.0 out of 5 stars As advertised: great for RTS gaming, April 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Razer Salmosa 1800dpi Infrared Gaming Mouse (Personal Computers)
Light, small, agile. Perfect for RTS gaming. Has a nice feel. The driver's control panel is a little gaudy though.

Good value for a good, no frills (okay, maybe a few frills) mouse. It's got a sort of micro-texture to it that gives your hand a really solid grip on it, no matter how you hold your mouse. Feels good in my hand. Buttons are large and good for spamming or controlled clicks. Mouse wheel feels just right too. It has some switches on the bottom that you'll play around with it at first to get your settings right and then probably never touch again.

If you're having problems with glitchy mouse control however, do yourself a favor and before picking up an expensive mouse, try using some sort of mouse-pad surface first. I know it's painful paying for a mouse pad, but it probably made more of a difference than changing mice did. Still, I've got no complaints with the Salmosa--it's the perfect mouse for me!

Quality mouse, my only complaint is that the left button often squeaks if you click off center (which I do).
