Book Description

Kristina Douglas’s sexy new series introduces a realm of fallen angels and ruthless demons, where an eternal rebellion is brewing . . . and one unsuspecting woman can change the fate of the Fallen forever.

She was just an ordinary mortal . . .

“You’re dead” is so not what Allie Watson wants to hear. Unfortunately, it explains a lot. Like the dark, angelically handsome man who ferried her to this strange, hidden land. The last thing she remembers is stepping off a curb in front of a crosstown bus. Now she’s surrounded by gorgeous fallen angels with an unsettling taste for blood—and they really don’t want her around. Not exactly how she pictured heaven.

. . . until death catapulted her into a seductive world she never imagined.

Raziel is unsure why he rescued Allie from hellfire against Uriel’s orders, but she stirs in him a longing he hasn't felt in centuries. Now the Fallen are bracing for the divine wrath brought by his disobedience, and they blame Allie for the ferocious Nephilim clawing at the kingdom’s shrouded gates. Facing impossible odds at every turn, the two must work together to survive. Raziel will do anything to defend his spirited lover against the forces of darkness—because Allie may be the Fallen’s only salvation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not nearly Great. January 31, 2011
By Katrina
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Kristen Douglas's first novel in the Fallen Series, "Raziel," was pretty much what I thought it would be--with a few twists thrown in for good measure to make it outshine against other fallen angel series that are out there. Unfortunately, no matter how much I liked the premise of this book, it fell short of where I was hoping it would go.
First off, the book concerns the characters Allie and Raziel, one of the Fallen Angels that hold an uneasy truce with Uriel, God's right-hand-guy. In order to keep this truce, and basically keep Uriel from wiping them off the face of the planet like he so badly wants to do, the Fallen tend to act as Uriel's very own Reapers, picking up dead souls and moving them on to the afterlife. This is how Raziel meets Allie. She dies, he takes her soul, he saves her from eternal damnation against almost every instinct he has, and so begins the book, as he takes her to his home where he lives with the other Fallen, and things move on from there.

So let's begin with the pros of what I thought was fabulous about this novel:

The main plot. Having read other fallen angel type books, where all the fallen were pretty much evil for having disobeyed God, this was pretty cool to see the twist. See, the Fallen aren't evil. The only thing they're guilty of happens to be loving humanity, having fallen in love, wanting to make the world a better place by offering it everything they have an are. Well, the big guy upstairs didn't really like this, so he banished the angels who dared to love. Pretty different, right?
Secondly, I liked the fact that the Fallen had two enemies, Uriel working through the Nephelium, and one a little closer to home.

4.0 out of 5 stars Raziel January 27, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Ever since I started reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, I've been looking for another series that could have the same setting, but deal with a different person from the same group in every book. There were already plenty of books out there with that element, but that wasn't the only prerequisite for a new series. It had to be likable. I already knew that nothing would take the place of the BDB series, but there must be a close second, or a series with great potential. I think The Fallen series has great potential!
This is my first adult book with fallen angels in it, so I had no real expectations when it came to what a group of angels would act like. I'm trying hard not to compare this series to BDB too much, but there are some positive and negative aspects of this book compared to BDB, I didn't connect with these characters very well initially. Raziel was cold and had the kind of description that I'm used to a side character having before they get their own book and become more personal. I also thought at times, that Allie was stuck up. But other than the problem with how relatable the characters were (at first), everything else (including the characters) was fascinating.

I've never heard of a story like this when it comes to fallen angels. It's almost as if this book goes the opposite way when dealing with who the fallen are, whether they deserved to fall, and who the good guys really are. Being a Christian who loves to "study to show herself (yourself) approved (2 Tim. 2:15 ) it took a moment to except some of the background story pertaining to the fallen angels. But after a few chapters, I was totally into it.

Another thing I liked about this book was the overall problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mmmm............ September 10, 2011
By Nhya
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book has all the problems you typically see in a 1st book of a new series. I like to call this "1st book syndrome" meaning that more often than not you will find a 1st book not to your liking.

Considering what this book is based on though (fallen angels), I was hoping to find that the plot, premise & characters would not be so simple. That the emotions, the issues and most of all the characters would be conflicted and in a convincing manner. You would think that what these creatures/people are dealing with and facing, what they have faced would not cause things to come about or be resolved in such a, for lack of a better word.. "Simple" easy manner.

I did not care at all for the lead female. she was said to be someone who is most likely in her late 20's maybe thirty, but her reasoning on all fronts would be that of a teenager. I did not like this at all. Raziel of course was hot as he was suppose to be but seriously lacked that thing that is signature of an Alpha male.. He came off just as whiny as Allie in alot of ways.. Given that, some of the action is what led me to keep reading, and I was a little intrigued by Azazel.. But I've always been intrigued by the fallen Azazel..

There really was not much world building in this book, and usually that is what you would find wrong with a 1st book, just trying to get a feel and understanding for the world these characters reside in. But no, that was not a problem with this one. The problem was everything else.. I am not sure if I will continue this series or not.. But I am guessing you really would not have to read this particular book in order to read the 2nd and 3rd. Unless you just want to know everything that has happened before starting the 2nd and 3rd book.. Other than that I would not recommend this read.
