Where's the brake?,

This review is from: Razor Siege Scooter (Sports)
First off, this is a great scooter and my 7-year old daughter loves it. It is more versatile and fun to ride than a traditional scooter but it suffers from one major flaw. There is no brake of any kind which is not only a convenience feature but a safety issue as well. The only way to stop is to pull a "Fred Flinstone" and put your foot down hoping to stop before crashing into something. This is especially tricky when going down hill as this baby picks up speed fast. Also, the "self-propelling" feature advertised by twisting back and forth is not very effective unless you're on a very smooth surface. But overall, like I said, this is a great scooter though I'd highly recommend exercising safety especially when navigating hilly terrain.

I bought the Razor Siege Caster Scooter for my son's 7 year birthday and he loves it! I thought not having a brake would be a problem, but that doesn't seem to be the case. He loves that it twists and turns and he can begin to learn new stunts.

Razor Siege Caster Scooter a Hit with 11 year old Son!,

My Son has had a "normal" razor scooter for 2 years, which he rides ALL THE TIME! It is amazing that it is still in one piece. He really wanted this one, so I purchased it for his birthday on June 10th. He LOVES all the things it does that the other one doesn't. It is very durable (so far) and he beats it up pretty good. He likes scooters because of the stability of the handles. He doesn't ride skateboards that much, due to confidence. I would highly recommend this scooter to any kid who is ready to move up from a normal scooter. It took him only a little bit to get used to the feel of it and he LOVES it!!!

Does not deliver on manufacturer's promises,

This review is from: Razor Siege Scooter (Misc.)
My son bought this scooter with birthday money. On the first ride out the hardware holding everything together near the front wheel completely fell apart. Luckily, my son was not hurt, but we were unable to find all of the pieces. We had to carry the scooter home. After a trip to the hardware store we had him back on the road. My son was disappointed that this scooter clearly does not "self-propel". He is able to get a little momentum, but not nearly what the manufacturer claims. A few months later, the hardware that is midway up the handle has fallen off and will need to be replaced. I also think that the handle pads could be made of something more durable. And I am shocked that the designers of this scooter did not see a need for a brake. My son either has to jump off, or drag his foot on the ground in order to stop. Needless to say, this is eating through his shoes. The swivel wheel in the back does make for a more interesting ride. My son is able to swoosh back in forth and seems to be mostly in control of his movements. He rides this scooter back and forth to school, and we have also taken him to a skate park where he had had fun on the ramps. He has never been able to "grind" on the middle bar like he would like to, but that may be due to his talent level, not the scooter. Summary: bought in May, now son wants to replace with a Ripstik no brake overrated "self-propelling" flimsy handle padding over designed and useless hardware BUT after stating all of these negative points, my son still rides this and seems to have fun. So it's not all bad

I bought this for my son's birthday and he has really enjoyed it. He also has a skateboard and a RipStik. This is actually a cross between the RipStik and a Razor scooter. It wasn't quite what he thought it would be (he thought it would have more of the RipStik characteristics but it doesn't) but he has adjusted and really likes it a lot. Lately he has grabbed this instead of his bike or any of the other toys when he goes out to play. I'd have to say it was a good purchase, not to mention that it was less expensive here than at a local store! Thanks, Amazon!

My friend was having trouble finding this scooter locally, so I let him order it on my account. When it arrived we gave it a little test drive. I must say it is quite unique, as compared with the traditional scooter. It is advertised as letting you "drift" around turns and corners. The way it does this is by using a flexible plastic-like platform where you stand on. You control the drift by leaning and balancing the weight on your rear foot, and you counter with the handle bars so you don't lose control.
I would say this works well, but it can also be dangerous. The build quality looks OK; the platform seems like it could break if too much weight were applied on top in the wrong way. The platform is like a very flexible abs plastic attached over an aluminum tube. If you're heavy like I used to be, use precaution. The wheels could use a smoother roll, other than that it works. The first time my friend rode it, he almost lost it, and a big grin popped on his face. He rode it for a little while, and then I had a turn. I almost twisted my ankle about 6 times, but I had a lot of fun doing it. As you can see, it's a risky ride, but if you are aware of the dangers, and use precaution as well as common sense, you will be fine. As a parent, I wouldn't purchase this for my child unless they were very active, and athleticly coordinated. The main reason for this is they have to be very alert and connected with this scooter when riding it, the wrong move this way or that way, and they could seriously injure themselves. In addition to that, they would also have to be on red alert for cars, because this scooter has no brakes, which sucks, but I can understand how brakes would not work in this case. If your child is wanting to get a scooter because their friends have scooters, I would purchase the regular model first, then this when they are ready. This model scooter is so responsive, they will have a hard time keeping up when the others are going faster, and the risk of losing control will be much greater for inexperienced riders. Of course, if you like that kind of thing, this one's for you, and it really does that job well! Payed $69, but I have seen Amazon have this as low as or around $55 Update! Jan 2011. So much fun I had to get myself one. If you own dogs this is a great fun tool for them to pull you around the neighborhood.

Review of Razor Siege Caster Scooter,

When I first received the Razor Siege Caster Scooter it seemed like it was well crafted. Upon further inspection I found that alot of high impact areas and moveable parts were made of cheap molded plastic. This proved true on the cheap part when within 2 days of receiving it the screw and latch that is used to release the locking mechanism to fold up the scooter fell apart and was not able to be repaired. After talking to other children that own the same scooter I found out that this is a common problem on every one of the other Razor Siege Caster Scooter in the neighborhood. This in turn makes it extremely difficult to fold up the scooter. Overall the rest of the scooter seems sound and my child enjoys playing on it. However he has to get a screw driver to pop the locking mechanism loose everytime he wants to fold it up for storage

Even the 4 year old loves it!,

This review is from: Razor Siege Scooter (Sports)
For the past few months, we've been infiltrated by the older kids on the block with their Razor Caster Scooters. I've seen these older boys fall and crash on these things like clockwork. So when I saw my 4 year old step on one, I had a silent heart attack while watching him test it out. He got on it and went slow, never falling. He's since gotten on their's and rode for about 5 minute stretches. He has awesome balance (thank you Kettler Balance Bike from Amazon) and has been able to ride a real bike and a real scooter since 3 years old. I was concerned though because of the whole drifting thing with the rear caster wheel. Also, there isn't a brake. So, since we are moving this week and the movers have already taken his regular scooter, we decided to get him this Caster Scooter. Holy wow! He just took off on it. He loves it and rode it straight last night for an hour. Doing swivels, jumping, and racing with the others. He had a ball and was so happy to be like the older boys. I can totally see how it could be dangerous though and will have to just watch him on it. The locking mechanism for folding is made of plastic, so hopefully it will last. Although how many times will we be locking it up in half? I wish they made other colors, but will probably do so eventually. He's ecstatic with it, and I think it's pretty cool too. I will try to get video of him and get it posted.
