can't wait until summer to use this little thing as it was meant to be used,
This review is from: Razor Sole Skate (Sports)
I had been saving some money to get a ripstik, but I decided to get my sole skate the day after I had even heard of it. I took my local bus down to a store where they sell it, and then walked home in the pouring rain. I wanted it THAT badly. I was so excited to ride it right away, but then I realized that I could learn how to ride this little sole skate in the rain; it would be too hard. So I practiced a bit inside my house in my tile hallways. I became a bit disheartened by the lack of progress I was making, and wasn't thinking to highly of my new toy. But this Easter weekend, I decided to take a better shot at learning to ride the thing, and it was pretty much just awesome!
I too live in a place on my street where either direction I take off, I head straight down hill. After an hour of practice or less, I was able to fly down the hills comfortably. Compared to a skateboard, this thing is pretty stable. It is a bit shaky, but not so much that you freak out about how you are probably going to die. It goes pretty fast, but I might put in some ABEC 7's like the other reviewer did. I would be a bit nervous going down my hill though, because it did gain some serious speed. The turning is ok; it takes a long time to master it especially with the direction you would go putting weight on outside of your feet; turning into the arch is easier (the direction is different for all depending on which foot you put on the sole skate). Sharp turning is pretty much impossible for me right now, though I am getting better. My favorite thing about this board is its physical qualities. You can just throw it down onto the street and fly; it doesn't break! The compact size is amazing too. It's a bit heavier than I expected, but nothing like the ripstik or a skateboard. You probably would hardly feel it in a backpack. I can't wait until summer when I can strap this to my bike or carry it in a backpack and bring it pretty much everywhere; the beach, the city, etc. But seriously, get this thing!! It's awesome!!! I am a teenage girl by the way. -------------------------------------------------------- edit After about a month, I still love my sole skate, but I feel like I have to tell you some things I have found out about it. It's difficult to use on even slightly rough pavement but not impossible. It gets really loud and shakes, making your foot feel tingly after you get off of it. But it doesn't hurt, so I at least don't find it too bad. But I've also realized how awesome it really is. The weather's been nice, so I've been going around on it and it can take you far! Still 5 stars.

Big fun in a little package,

Pulled the Sole Skate out of its packaging and it was ready to ride without having to do anything else to it. Since we don't have a flat street to practice on, I jumped on it, pointed it down the hill we live on and took off. I was a little wobbly at first, but quickly gained confidence going down the hill.
The Sole Skate is stable and maneuvers easily. Anybody who has ever ridden a skateboard will instantly be comfortable on the Sole Skate. I'm 41-years old, and felt like a kid again racing downhill. There is a rear-wheel brake, which is depressed when you put your foot on the board. This brake stops the skate when you step (or fall) off. Also, if you lift your heel while skating, the brake will help slow you down. A little. I was a little disappointed with the speed of the Sole Skate, so I upgraded the bearings to a better quality ABEC 7 bearing and added a better spacer than the floating stock spacer. Much, much better. Almost too fast for the hill we live on, really. The Razor Sole Skate is rated for "up to 225 lbs," but I weigh about 25 lbs more than that, and have pushed the skate pretty hard and it seems to be holding up pretty well. If you weigh under the prescribed 225 lbs, you'll probably need a sledgehammer to break this thing. I also like that the Sole Skate will fit in one of my motorcycle saddle bags or in a back pack in case I want to take it along with me somewhere.

Sole skate faster than walking,

Bought mostly for commuting and took a couple days to get used to. Works well on smooth pavement or sidewalk, not well where sidewalk has big cracks or pavement is bumpy, because the small wheels don't ride well over bumps. Usually end up picking it up when crossing streets, but it is lightweight enough to pick up quickly and carry. Turning is okay, but frankly I end up pushing with my foot every second or so anyway, so the pushing foot helps turn as much as the leaning does. I go up to two miles using this and appreciate being able to carry it anywhere. Faster than walking, slower than biking. 10 minute miles are quite doable.

I think it's pretty easy to ride, nothing too complicated. It's really fast!! Maybe don't ride this on a hill! I live on a hill, so I tried it first on our parking lot, and then I went on to the hill and that thing flew! Not too scary, but the hill isn't really that big. It's pretty durable and fun to ride, I think it's pretty easy to get used to it. I just want summer to get here so I can ride it as it's supposed to be (it's been snowing around here still). I am right handed, so I use my right foot to push myself, so I found it hard to turn left at some points, other than that is pretty easy. I love the fact that it has a break on the back that you have to press, because then I can easily get off of it (by just stepping down) and the skate doesn't go running of or back or it flies up or down, it just stays.
Awesome, I think it's a cool thing to ride.

ok but not good on bumpy surfaces,
This review is from: Razor Sole Skate (Sports)
You can only ride this on smooth surfaces and therefore not great for taking out very far, need to stay in a place where the surface is good.

And when you get it you don't have to put any thing together, it's just ready to go. I could go on all day of how happy I am with this thing. I really really really hope you get it. My kids 8 and 10 got these for Christmas, it has been such a hit. No one else in our neighborhood have them so my kids have been sharing as everyone wants a turn. It has been a month and still everyday they use them. They are light and easy to take any where. They work great on the road or side walk. A great new addition to playing out doors.

ripstik is better,
This review is from: Razor Sole Skate (Sports)
Before I bought the sole skate, I had had a scooter for about 2 or 3 years. I decided that I wanted something more, like a skateboard. I really enjoyed it, but it got a bit boring as you really couldn't do anything on it but push it around and it's really no fun at all on up hills, even slight inclines. I decided that this Christmas, I wanted a ripstik. Much better. you can learn easy tricks and u can always improve on riding it, especially the flexing motion. Best of all, you can go on slight inclines and still have fun. I'm not great yet but I will be able to go on actual hills with more practice. My advice: if u have a sole skate, keep using it. It is a good starter board as it helps you learn how to balance, a key skill you need to ride the ripstik. once you've mastered the sole skate, however, I would suggest a ripstik, other casterboard, or regular skateboard |
