5.0 out of 5 stars Check chain tension before riding!!!!
Like some reviews, my 8-year-old son's first E300 only ran about ten minutes per charge and 13mph max speed (yes, I have a radar gun). Troubleshooting sent us toward a dragging brake, but the brake adjustment was fine. The chain, however, was super tight (I'm an old motorcycle racer, so I know a lot about chain tension). I loosened the chain tension, but no improvement,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough power, battery life
I am very happy with the scooter except that it lacks power to go up even small hills without overheating (so that you have to push it, let it cool, then press the reset button after a few minutes). It cannot operate 45 minutes continuously as claimed, more like 25 minutes, and has a much more limited range than the inferred 7.5 miles (45 minutes at 10 mph), more like 3...

I loosened the chain tension, but no improvement, and returned the entire unit. (I suspect either a bad battery or the overly tight chain tension damaged the motor armature.) When the next E300 showed up, I checked the chain immediately out of the box. Again, super tight. I loosened the chain (extra loose for the first run, maybe 3/4" play) and completed the rest of the setup. The unit performed flawlessly. Speed was consistently 17mph and still running strong after 35 minutes (we've only done two test runs so far). Slightly tightened chain tension to about 1/2" after first run. Also, as noted by another reader, we looked everywhere for the rear tire inflater extension, only to find it inside the right handlebar grip cap. Good luck figuring that out when it isn't in the directions. The E300 is sturdily built - a lot more than I would expect for the money. I weigh 210 lbs and the structure doesn't flinch when I climb aboard (although the motor is clearly not intended for any hills or probably heavy riders). My son is about 60 lbs and we live in Florida (no hills), so this thing will hopefully last a long time. If you live where there are hills or you weigh more than 150 lbs, I recommend you look for another scooter. Happy riding.Razor E300 Electric Scooter

Update: 10-01-2007 I took the E300 out for a test run myself after dropping my son off at school (I want to test the unit thoroughly inside the 30-day return policy). I cruised the entire neighborhood, local park and all around. It is a very blustery day (threatening rain and lots of wind), so I encountered lots of headwinds. Through the ride I was up and down small hills too. I did this entire drive without any stopping, and the E300 finally gave out at 25 minutes on the button (the motor was moderately hot to the touch). Because of my weight (210 lbs), I can tell the motor is small and not designed for any hills or adults, so I was very impressed by this performance, especially considering the occasional stiff headwinds that I could tell strained the motor (you have no choice but to stand straight up like a sail forcing against the motor). My 8-year-old son is about 65 lbs and has never seen the "low power" light yet during his two 35 minute runs. I still think we have winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!, January 24, 2007
This review is from: Razor E300 Electric Scooter (Sports)
I purchased 2 Razor 300 scooters for my daughters (8 and 9 years old) for Christmas. They shipped and arrived in 4 days. The were easy to assemble and I was impressed with the quaility. I thought the girls would have a little trouble riding them since the recommended age is 12 yrs old. With an hour or so of instruction they were riding confidently. I am very pleased with everything about these scooters and highly recommend them.

It is fast and fun, but does not have the range and power I expected. It is basically good for level places unless you are willing to push it up hills.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product., July 9, 2007
This review is from: Razor E300 Electric Scooter (Sports)
I have really enjoyed riding this scooter to work which is one mile away. I take back roads since this vehicle is not allowed on public sidewalks or streets. I always walk it across the main busy street.

The scooter works as advertised. It has good pick-up on flats. It seems to stuggle just a little on any incline. I'm 154 lbs. Everyone who has ridden it has loved it. The chain drive is relatively quiet. It has great gas mileage...like none. I haven't ridden it straight to see how long the battery would last. I've been able to get back and forth to work twice (1 mile each way) before I noticed a decrease in power. However, the low battery light didn't come on so I'm not sure if the power decline was because I was going up-hill.

One thing that is hokey is that you cannot lock the handle in the down position. A screw unlocks it so you can fold it down, but it is not convenient to carry since there is no way to lock it down. bad design.

Also, the paperwork says the battery is good for about 250-300 charges. This might be less than two year's worth of travel to/from work for me. I haven't looked up the price of a new battery.

The only other thing that I've noticed is that the scooter has a strong smell of motor oil after riding it. I have to store it in the hallway during the day because it made my office smell like an old oily garage. I also notice the smell when transporting it in my car. I think it is the oil for the chain, but haven't investigated it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Razor E300 Great Buy, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Razor E300 Electric Scooter (Sports)
I read every review before buying scooter. With some hesitation, i proceeded with the purchase. What a great gift for a 10 year old boy. I opened it up the day before his birthday, checked the chain tension, charged it overnight / per instructions, and surprised my son with it the next morning. My son is 80 pounds and this thing screamed for what seemed to be more than 45 minutes with all his friends jumping on that morning to take a lap around the block. Some of the lighter kids were making me a little nervous as they we going pretty fast. We also have a steep driveway, only 15 yards long, but he makes it up no problem.

I, weighing 180 pounds, have taken it out for a spin. On flat surfaces it moves along fine though with some incline, I can see how this might get a lower than perfect review. On a full charge, and some momentum I can make it up the driveway as well.

I guess if you are an adult looking for a scooter, go with a Go-Ped or Segway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, November 15, 2006

We bought it in May 2006 and have used it almost daily since then. The scooter is fun and easy to ride. The only negatives are that the circuit breaker will trip while climbing steep hills (of course, that's what a breaker is for), and the batteries will no longer hold a charge. I expected the batteries to last longer than 6 months.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Scooter, February 7, 2007
This review is from: Razor E300 Electric Scooter (Sports)
Bought this for my 7 year old son. He loves it! He caught on to riding it right away and ddoesn't want to stop. The scooter also has no problem with me riding it (175 pounds). The only problem is the shipping - it is shipped in the original box and the box was pretty beat up upon delivery. I checked out the scooter while putting it together and it was fine. Great scooter for the money and delivery was fast!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome scooter!, February 16, 2010
Works great! Had it for 2 months and our 11 year-old son uses it at least 3 times per week. His friends love it too! It lasts for at least an hour on a charge and can easily go 5-10 miles on flat ground before it needs to be recharged. Follow the instructions and always fully charge it after every use.

Update: Now we've had this for 18 months and it gets very heavy use. It still works great and holds a charge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scooter-ific, June 8, 2007
This review is from: Razor E300 Electric Scooter (Sports)
Okay, my title may be a little corny but it's true! My tween daughter loves this scooter. It came in a box and required some assembly. I got it put together in a matter of 5 minutes or so even with my toddler running around. The battery needed charged for a long time before first use, which is typical, but my daughter was anxious to ride it. The next day, she rode it all over the place. We have a farm, and were surprised that it even goes in the grass some. It does a beautiful job on pavement and can reach pretty high speeds! Because it's battery powered, it doesn't go up hills all that fast, but it made it up with my 100 pound daughter just fine. We liked the display that shows when your battery is beginning to wear down so if you're far away from your home, you can begin heading back. I would recommend using helmet and knee pads, elbow pads, etc... It is an excellent toy, and I (along with my daughter) would highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well built scooter, July 31, 2008
This review is from: Razor E300 Electric Scooter (Sports)
We bought this for our 8 year old son. It was a big hit and has held up to the last months beating. The battery starts off strong and holds its charge for a reasonable amount of time. The instructions claim 40 minutes on a full charge. It seems pretty accurate. I definitely think that getting the 300 gives you the best battery/power combination. The box says ages 12 and up but I think it is perfect for our 8 year old. Not too powerful but enough power that it is not laboring to get going while he rides it. I weigh 190 pounds and this scooter does a good job of pulling me around. I would recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a motorized scooter. Good quality...
