Product Description

Amazon.com

Essentially a scaled-down motocross bike with an electric motor, the Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket is ideal for teens who want to enjoy the dirt bike experience without breaking the bank. The Dirt Rocket's powerful 500-watt motor carries riders at speeds of up to 17 miles per hour--more than enough for most bumpy dirt trails--and can cruise for up to 10 miles on a single charge. At the same time, the bike's dual suspension and riser handlebars deliver a smooth and comfortable ride regardless of the terrain, so your teen's fun isn't restricted to flat pavement. As a final bonus, the Dirt Rocket's variable-speed, chain-driven motor is extremely quiet, a marked contrast to traditional gas-powered motocross bikes.

Other details include large pneumatic knobby tires for a maximum power transfer, authentic dirt bike frame geometry, a retractable kickstand, and a double-crown fork. The MX500, which requires roughly eight hours to fully charge, is recommended for ages 14 and over and offers a maximum weight limit of 175 pounds. It's also backed by a 90-day warranty.

Ok here we go. I wrote that review on the Honda Minimoto Dirtbike.I said how it was not good and how I purchased the Go Kart and the Maxxi and they also had problems. Read that review, the title is "TRUST ME READ THIS". I said to myself you know what im going buy the Razor MX500 Dirt Bike. WOW WHAT A GREAT BUY!!!!!! This thing is durable, safe, and fun. I recommend it for ages 8-15 years old. However there are reviews for other razor products about the battery life. Yes the battery life is not good, IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. I followed the directions and my MX500's battery is fantastic. To have a good motor and battery follow these easy steps...

1. Take MX500 out of box CAREFULLY!

2. Assemble in order of the directions (If you follow them it will be assembled in 20 minutes).

3. Turn MX500 on and JUST FOR ONE SECOND TWIST THE THROTTLE just to make sure it works. (Do not ride just a flick of the throttle just to check).

4. Charge the MX500 overnight or for 12 or more hours (The key is to charge it for 12+ hours)

5. Take the charger out and go ride

If you follow these directions given your MX500 will be perfect.

We have owned the Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike since February, 2010. It is used EVERY single day by my 55lb 11 year old. He loves it. The kids in the neighborhood love it. We have not had a problem with the battery life at all, but my son takes really good care of it and followed the directions exactly. Also, I might add, this is NOT difficult to assemble at all. The majority of it is assembled already. My 11 year old assembled it by himself!!! All we had to do was come in when he was done and tighten up the bolts. The one thing that I love about this "dirt bike" is that it is so quiet. Even though he is riding on an acre of property, we don't annoy the neighbors when he gets near their homes. It doesn't eat up the grass either!!
This is definitly a great product!

Update 10/2010: Our Razor dirt bike is still going strong and gets ridden EVERY single day! Just wanted to update my review now that more time has elapsed!

I've been seeing so many electric mx bikes that I waited enough to get my own. I looked all over the internet to find a good mx bike. Then I saw the razor mx 350& The mx 500. Found that the 350 was too small for me and looked for the mx 500. Called atleast 20 stores untill... Toysrus carried one more of these. Bought it. Brought it home and assembled it. My Dad rode it first. He had so much fun I had to ask him to let me use it. When I first sat on it and twisted the throttle.Sick!!!!!!!! it was so awsome!!!. I would've road it all night but it was already 9:30 so had to go to bed. I so, so, so recommend this mx bike. It's realy easy to get into. I'd recommend this for 10-16. DO NOT allow anyone to ride this under the age of 10 trust me. Sadly I always love to give places to buy this product but knowone has this in stores anymore but on the internet. For kids under 10 try the Razor mx 350. And for kids over 16 try the razor mx 650. (Please note that all of these products I listed can be very dangerous if not used carefully. Also never ride on streets the bikes or any electric scooter are illegal anywhere on a street in the US.) Thanks for reading!!

We purchased this electric dirt bike for our son's 13th birthday and it has been a big hit! The bike weighs about 105 lbs. so the most difficult part was getting it out of the box for me to do the minor assembly. Parents don't have to worry that their kids won't get exercise because they have ditched their bicycles because it only runs 45-60 minutes on a charge and takes at least 4 hours to recharge. This doesn't bother my son or his friends as the 45 minutes seems to be enough time to have fun before they are off to something else. I would highly recommend this for a 13 year old that is stuck between the "toy" age and the teen "clothing" age. In two more years he will be in drivers education so we felt this would teach him some of those basic skills of driving.

I ordered this bike for my daughter (age 10) and she loves it. The bike arrived on time and the package was slightly damaged, but the bike was in perfect shape. One nut was missing, which I replaced. She has ridden it everday for the last few weeks and she enjoys it very much. I would recommend this bike.

I have owned both the Razor MX500 and MX350. I first got the MX350 when I was about 10 (says age 13+). At age 10 most kids would be almost too big to ride this. Its going to be too small for many 11-12 year-olds. About a year to a year and a half ago I bought the MX500. It says ages 14+ and at 14 it was just my size, and I knew I'd only have about a year on it. Within a few months the whole back end and tire had to be replaced. A few weeks after that, both the charger died (the MX350 charger died a few months before that). And after the winter, even though we stored them inside, they both needed new batteries. In the Owner's manual it says "Even with proper care, a rechargeable battery does not last forever. Average battery life is 1 to 2 years depending on vehicle use and conditions. Replace only with a Razor replacement battery." If you're willing to spend $139.99 every year to keep this going, keep reading. On the website it boasts about how awesome it is off-road. In the owner's manual it states "Use only on solid, flat [,] clean [,] and dry surfaces such as pavement or level ground." And I can vouch for the fact that this will not be able to take someone up a dirt hill. It gets 2 stars because for the small amount of time it works, it actually is pretty fun. But both of these together we have put at lest $700+ into these in about 5 years and now they can't sell for more than $100 (I am trying to sell them as I have outgrown them). These will cost you a lot of money for something that is not very reliable or durable, but pretty fun. If money is no issue what-so-ever (doubtful), then these are great for little kids to learn before a real dirt bike, or just for the heck of it.
This is from someone who has had experienced these for 5+ years.
