Product Description

Amazon.com

The high-performance, electric powered Razor MX650 Dirt Rocket is ideal for teens (ages 16 and up) who want to enjoy an authentic dirt bike experience without breaking the bank. The Dirt Rocket's powerful motor carries riders at speeds of up to 17 miles per hour--more than enough for most bumpy dirt trails--and can cruise for up to 10 miles (or 40 minutes) on a single charge. At the same time, the bike's dual suspension and riser handlebars deliver a smooth and comfortable ride regardless of the terrain, so the fun isn't restricted to flat pavement. As a final bonus, the Dirt Rocket's variable-speed, chain-driven motor is extremely quiet, a marked contrast to traditional gas-powered motocross bikes.

Other details include 16- and 14-inch pneumatic knobby tires for a maximum power transfer, authentic dirt bike frame geometry, Supercross inspired design, and folding metal foot pegs. The MX650, which requires roughly eight hours to fully charge, offers a maximum weight limit of 140 pounds. It's also backed by a 90-day warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bike but much smaller than advertised November 14, 2007
This is a great bike. My 11 year old son loves this bike and rides it almost everyday. The bike has a tremendous amount of power. I weigh 190# and it carried me well on an initial test drive. My 11 year old son who has been riding electric bikes for several years does terrific on this bike. He weighs 65 pounds and is 55" tall. The bike seems to be perfect for him based on his size and experience riding. The bike is interesting in that it is extremely powerful but size wise is designed for kids 9-12 years old. The box says 16 and up, which is ridiculous. The bike seems well designed and has a nice suspension system and dual disk breaks. The price is unbelievable for what you get but I would only recommend it for kids 9- 12 who have experience riding other powered bikes. The tires are pneumatic however they are very hard and knobby. They are fine for off road use but a slip out fast on slick pavement. Over all a great bike for experienced 9-12 year olds who have a non paved surface to ride on. We didn't experience any problems mechanically or electrically.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME PRODUCT!!! WELL BUILT!!! SUPER TOUGH!! August 8, 2007
My kids has rode this bike non stop since the day it arrived!!! I had to install the handle bars and front tire, i also checked over all nuts and bolts. This took 10 mins. and then the battery had to charge....(my kid was wanting to ride right then) BUT when he did ride it.....He loved it!!!! I like the fact that there is NO NOISE and the speed tops out at like 22 mph. PERFECT for an 8 yr. old boy!!! All of his friends have now bought them.....500's and the 650 and the 650 is ALOT faster than the 500!!
These bikes are tough and take a beating!!! My kid has dumped it like 4 times and NOTHING has broke yet!!!
MY only complaint is the decals!!! they start to peel off from the 1st ride!! Not that big of a deal...I went out and bougt Suzuki stickers and now it looks like a factory ride!
The disc brakes are GREAT and stop on a dime!! The tires are wearing down fast since the kids mostly ride on the sidewalks and street!
I like the bike and am glad i bought a RAZOR rather that a cheap china replica from Ebay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Razor products!! January 11, 2007
We have bought 5 different types of Razor electric scooters and bikes for our 6 children and they have all held up well. This model was bought for our 11 year old son. It gives him the feel and look of a real dirt bike, without the danger. It has enough speed for him to be able to handle without it being too much. Nice size too. Goes about 15-17 miles per hour and even though it says it runs about 45 minutes straight on a charge, ours runs approx 1 1/2 hours on a charge. Guess that varies with weight. Razor seems to hold up and their customer service is great too! They go out of their way to satisfy the customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect For Me September 13, 2007
I got this bike for my b-day on august 29. If you think about getting the MX500 it is OK,my neighbor has it and we race and do jumps and stuff but mine does a lot better. It is perfect for me it is great for jumps if you jack up the shock some.It is also great is you want to zip somewhere about a block or so.I would definitely recommend it for a 10-13 year old. I love it and if your looking for something like this I recommend it very much.

Bike appears to be solid with the exception of the rear wheel sprocket assembly. It seems to be a common problem with this bike. After one week the rear wheel fell apart. Motor spins and the rear sprocket turns but the wheel does not move. Called customer service and Razor is shipping a new wheel. I'm pretty sure this will happen again as it's a very poor design. From what I can see there is no good alternative replacement parts. After the 3 month warranty period is over you are stuck buying a new wheel. Bike is used by a 6 year old around the house. Stay away from this garbage. If Razor would fix the rear wheel design this would be a great toy and I would give it 5 stars. In my opinion it's unacceptable for a toy like this to fall apart after one week of light use.

7/19/11 UPDATE: As predicted the rear freewheels broke again (one week after being replaced). Called Razor again and they are shipping a new wheel. After investigating the issue closer I decided to take the broken wheel to a local shop and weld the freewheel solid. This will eliminate the freewheel problem. It's not a perfect solution but it should get the job done and keep my son happy. I will post an update once it's tested.

10/29/11 UPDATE:
Found a reasonable fix to my rear freewheel problem. I welded the rear sprocket solid and it work great but I wanted to investigate other options. Since I had few spare rear wheels (Razor warranty replacements) I purchased a brand new freewheel from ElectricScooterParts for $12 (I chose the cheaper one that looks like a bicycle rear sprocket. It replaces the original freewheel and the original bigger sprocket bolts right on top of it. The new sprocket work great, much stronger and more reliable. My son is using the the same unit entire summer without any issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bike! November 21, 2007
We bought this bike for our 12 year old son for his birthday. At first we were a bit concerned that it would be too big and too fast for him since it said the minimum age is 16 - but it is truly perfect for him. It holds a charge for what seems 10 miles and really goes fast. It has more than met our expectations! My son is pretty hard on it - riding it on rough terrain and it has held up wonderfully.

I read all the reviews and felt confident that this was the best bike for the money. We since bought two others for his 8 year old brothers. We looked at the next smaller version but the reviews were so inconsistent that we opted to go with what was a proven success.

We can't imagine any child being disappointed with this bike. It's rugged, takes a beating pretty well, goes very fast, and the kids really get their fill riding it before it needs to be re-charged. The decals are the only thing that seem not to hold up as well as the bike itself.

A great value!
