Editorial Reviews

Australia released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), WIDESCREEN (1.85:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Cast/Crew Interview(s), Collectors Edition, Deleted Scenes, Documentary, Featurette, Interactive Menu, Photo Gallery, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Before he directed the cult classic Highlander (1986), music video creator Russell Mulcahy adapted this stylish, tongue-in-cheek horror film from the novel by Peter Brennan. Gregory Harrison stars as Carl Winters, a grief-stricken American husband who has come to a remote corner of Australia to seek answers in the death of his wife, a TV journalist who was investigating a story on kangaroo poaching. Carl meets Jake Cullen (Bill Kerr), a man obsessed with hunting down what he says is an enormous razorback boar that consumed his grandson. Although he was acquitted, most of the locals believe that Jake murdered the boy himself and invented the crazy story about a giant pig. Jake tells Carl that he believes the razorback is also responsible for his wife's death. At first skeptical, Carl becomes a believer when he encounters the beast. He and Jake track it to a dog food processing plant, where the owners are illegally butchering kangaroos for industrial use. The factory operators are also feeding the dog food to the gigantic razorback, increasing its size and carnivorous appetite. Joined by farmer Sarah Cameron (Arkie Whiteley), Carl and Jake set out to kill the powerful mutant.

1.0 out of 5 stars RATING BASED UPON DISC MANUFACTURE QUALITY, September 3, 2009
I gave this title a one star rating due to the manufacture quality
of the disc(s), not based upon the actual content of the disc(s).
I recently purchased five Warner Archive titles from [...]
Titles purchased were: All The Marbles, Bermuda Depths, Carny,
From Hell It Came and Razorback. On the back cover of each disc it states,
Discs are for use in playback only devices. All five of these discs would
not function correctly. What I mean is that the menu would not come up
on any of them. The screen would just show black with no picture until
I skipped forward to approx 30 to 50 minutes into the film. Then I had
to fast reverse search back to the start of the movie. Upon doing this
the films/discs then played through the films. Quality of the films
themselves I feel is very good. I attempted playback on five different
brands of DVD players with the exact same result. It would seem these M.O.D.
(Manufactured On Demand) titles are either so heavily encrypted with
Macrovision or just so poorly manufactured that playback is very frustrating.
Cover art is extremely lacking in photos and design layout.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, solid B-movie fun., March 17, 2006
This review is from: Razorback [ NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.0 Import - Australia ] (DVD)
Razorback is arguably the greatest film ever made about a giant, wild, smart, killer pig with a taste for human flesh.Arguably.All kidding aside if you like horror movies about monster animals with a cool tongue-in-cheek attitude, but with some truly exciting moments (think Alligator)I believe you will get a kick out of this flick. The movie was obviously made on the cheap, but with talent and imagination much like another incredible Australian indie Mad Max.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best giant boar movie ever made, October 2, 2011

This review is from: Razorback (DVD)
If you have seen pig hunt or chawz and never have seen Razorback, then you are truly missing out on a gem of the 80's. Scary, good SPFX, and a vision of Australia I have never seen before. These people make the guy in Wolf Creek look like Santa Claus. Beautifully directed and crafted, great performances all around, please don't miss this feature in your collection.
