More About the Author

MASHA.COM
Creating stuff has been Masha's favorite thing to do ever since she was a little girl in St. Petersburg, Russia. Masha moved to the U.S. when she was a teenager eventually studying painting, printmaking and graphic design at the Cooper Union in New York. After graduation she worked as an art director, focusing on brand identity, for several design and advertising agencies. Despite her professional success in graphic design, she never forgot her love of painting.

In 2002 Masha launched a greeting card company based on her own watercolors. Her playful painting style draws on inspirations from nature, fashion design, calligraphy, Japanese art and, of course, her native fairy tales. Whimsical and sophisticated, her themes are evocative of a child's imagination: euphoric abandon, humor, everyday mystery, and the beauty of imperfection.

Masha's cards have found their first audience through upscale stores such as Barneys NY, Louis Boston and Neiman Marcus. Now her card line may be found in exclusive boutiques as well as in specialty lines developed for Target and Barnes & Noble. Her growing list of products includes t-shirts and home decor for Neiman Marcus, The Gap and Target, CD jackets for Bergdorf Goodman, bedding for Garnet Hill, and t-shirts and home decor for Urban Outfitters. Masha's work has been featured in numerous movies and TV shows including Funny People and The Kids Are Alright.

Masha also designs paper-engineered cards for The Museum of Modern Art's renowned holiday card line. Her Times Square ball drop design recently won an international Louie award.

Razzle-Dazzle Ruby is her first pop-up book. razzledazzleruby.com

Masha D'yans captures a child's exuberance as she romps through the snow. Imagination is the name of the game as everyday activities become a Ruby-sized fairy tale.

Watercolor illustrations are enhanced by paper engineering. Pages become interactive spreads that sparkle, spin, pop and twirl. Children will love manipulating the images, however, the stiffness of some of the interactive elements may be hard for little fingers to manage. "Razzle-Dazzle Ruby" is a charming picture book that children will enjoy time and time again.

Imagination abound as Razzle-Dazzle Ruby sets out on a day of adventure and fun in the snow wonderland near her home. Battling fierce snowmen and braving the wintry day she stumbles upon noblemen and even a knight. With each page interact with Ruby by pulling, turning and spinning to make each scene come alive for little ones and adults alike.

Normally I'm not at all a fan of books that require pulling or turning to make pages come to life, but Razzle-Dazzle Ruby by Masha D'yans happens to be an exception to that rule. My reasoning for my usual dislike rests squarely with my children's interactions with them in the past. In most cases books with pulling things get torn to pieces in a matter of days, it's terrible and I hate to contribute to that kind of damage to a book so I normally avoid them. But you know what? Littlebug loved this story so much that she has been overly cautious with it. It's adorable! She'll pick up the book with the utmost of care just to insure that no harm will come to it's gorgeous pages. We've thoroughly enjoyed reading it (nearly everyday mind you) and interacting with the imaginative adventure Ruby goes on.

Just in time for winter to be here Razzle-Dazzle Ruby is sure to please readers of any age. Filled with the gorgeous illustrations of Masha D'yans readers entire a world of blustery snow and whimsical delights. This is certainly a book both of my kiddos enjoyed, but most of all Littlebug. Let me not fail to mention either that I personally enjoyed the illustrations so much that I'd consider purchasing a print by D'yans for Littlebug's room. D'yans is an incredibly talented artist and I'm excited to see what else she comes out with next. As for Razzle-Dazzle Ruby, it shows young readers there is magic to be found every day you step outside your front door and you never know exactly what to expect but it will certainly be an adventure.

I absolutely LOVE, love this book, the colours, the verse and ohhhh, the artwork! It is a wintry magical adventure, it has sparkles, pop-ups, tugs and twirls. It is by far my new favourite picture book for children. (girls and boys!) The author does a fantastic job capturing childhood imagination and magic!

I did (happily) receive a copy from the publisher to review in exchange for my honest opinion. However, I'll be buying my own for gifts!

Based on a recommendation from a friend, I bought this book for my cousin, whose daughter is just turning six. After it arrived, I opened the shipping box so I could re-wrap it in gift paper. I started looking through the book and was taken away by the artwork! The whimsical spreads are so lush and beautiful, they reminded me of all the great children's books I used to read growing up: The Hungry Caterpillar, The Clown of God, Strega Nona and the rest. The pop-up action is pretty cool too. I bought another copy for my nephew!!

This book is all I had hoped. I love Masha D'yans whimsical illustrations. I am usually leary of buying pop-up type books but the quality of the paper should withstand a child's usage if she is being taught to love and respect books. My 3 1/2 year old grand-daughter is thrilled.

Worth every penny! I love this book and my toddler does too, perfect! It does help that her name is Ruby too, but it's still a fun story and impressive art.

I got this one for the niece, and she was initially upset that I got her a book for a present.

Afterwards, she opened it up and enjoyed playing with all the features inside. I sat with her and read it to her and showed her how to operate the various widgets inside the book. Worked out good in the end.
