4.0 out of 5 stars Simplisticly easy
There's not much the can be said badly about this player, the worse trouble I've had with it is the strap coming off one side, but only when in my backpack, it's a great player for the price, and the 'splash/sweat proof covering' that is the shell is one the main reason's I got it and so far it's worked out very well. Have had for a couple months. Also, if you have a reg...

Even after recharging, it went dead after an hour or so with the unit turned off! What a nightmare. This was the first product from Amazon that was broken upon arrival. It was not worth the effort to try to return it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lousy battery. Poor quality even at this price., February 17, 2010
This review is from: Rca S2002 Jet Series Sports Mp3 Player (2 Gb) (Electronics)
All I wanted was an inexpensive mp3 player to use in the gym. My last one (Zen Nano) broke after I dropped it and I wanted something a little more robust. I assumed that the low price had to do with the lack of bells and whistles on this very basic player but apparently it is a reflection of the quality as well. The battery life is horrendous. It only lasts an hour or two in use and seems to drain over night when the device is turned off. The controls are difficult to use and I was unable to get it out of stopwatch mode with hitting reset. There is definitely a niche in the market for a tough little no frills player but this does not fill it.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's an MP3 player, October 26, 2008
This review is from: Rca S2002 Jet Series Sports Mp3 Player (2 Gb) (Electronics)
A decent player for the price if you toss the ear pieces that come with it and use a pair of sony's. You won't get the volume or sound quality you're used to if you don't do this. Controls are a little funky to use with a complex menu system that takes some practice. The radio works OK and is accessable through the complex menu. It is nothing special. The player semi-permanently attaches to the arm band. It does not have a pouch from which you can remove the player without removing the arm band. I liked my old RCA Lyra that I'd used for about 4 years much better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless rubbish that should be avoided at all costs, October 4, 2010

The RCA Jet. What can I say? It's another painfully worthless hunk of plastic that RCA has somehow managed to pawn off as a frigging MP3 player. Seriously, this player is garbage. You're better off scouring ebay for a 1987 Sony Walkman than going with this palm-sized turd.

Pros:
- Fashionable orange and black finish make this a stylish Halloween accessory. A must have for any 7 year old.

Cons:
- The Jet gives you a whopping 2 hours on a fully charged battery. This was from day one. And just to make life even worse it also manages to slowly drain the battery even when it's off! Yeah! This means the batteries are basically dead... hmmmm... always. Nice feature.

- Some genius designed the headphone jack so that whenever you have headphones plugged in (i.e., every single time you use the player ever) there is a big, obtrusive cover for where the jack plugs in that sticks out and either A) rubs against your arm, pocket, etc. or B) breaks immediately since it's a mother-loving 3/4 inch cover that STICKS OUT.

- The USB port is shoddy. Expect to have to plug this baby in 3 or 4 times before your computer will recognize it. Oh and most computers will also stop recognizing the player in the middle of removing or adding music. In other words, if you really need to add a song to the player (which apparently the designers NEVER thought about), then put aside 5-10 minutes per song and be prepared to lose your friggin' mind with anger.

- Shoddy arm band designed to break in first week. Had to replace it with a third party arm band.

- No firmware updates for Windows 7. But... it wouldn't matter since when I try to update the firmware using XP, the Jet just turns off.

Overall I give this thing an F-. The engineers that designed this intolerable waste of space should be forced to spend eternity listening to Right Said Fred on their own abominable creation, the RCA Jet. On the otherhand, A+ to the RCA marketing force that managed to bring an unusable piece of consumer electronics to the market that was obviously put together by a development team with engineering degrees from the Rhinelander School of Taxidermy. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to my SanDisk player to arrive so I can take this little MP3 monster from hell outside and smash it to bits with a hammer.

1.0 out of 5 stars A TOTAL DISASTER, December 29, 2009

This is a piece of junk. I originally bought the S2001 which I wanted so my kid could listen to audio books.. It wouldn't sync to the PC and it seemed as if it was mounting and un-mounting every few seconds. It only would appear as a hard drive basically, and even that was unstable. It supposedly comes "Audible Ready" but I couldn't get my downloaded books to play on it. Windows Media Player can't find the device more than half the time, and when it finally does find it, it can't work with it. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro, but with itunes, it's not compatible, and with the audible books due to DRM, I couldn't work around it using it as a hard drive.

SO... I sent it back to RCA.
I'll give them props that they sent me the upgraded version, the S2002 but it is the same story. It's a hunk of junk that I am going to literally place in the trashcan. Do not waste even the $12 I initially paid for the S2001. It's a total disaster.

3.0 out of 5 stars could have been awesome, September 11, 2007
This review is from: Rca S2002 Jet Series Sports Mp3 Player (2 Gb) (Electronics)
I was looking for an mp3 player with a stopwatch so that I could time myself jogging. This has a stopwatch on it, but it is completely useless because while in "stopwatch mode" you can't change tracks or even adjust the volume. If you want to turn up the volume, you have to go to a different menu - which would not be a problem, but when you come back to stopwatch mode - it's reset to zero. The reality is that when you are working out sometimes you need to change songs, or at least adjust the volume because of external noise, track volume differences, etc.

Otherwise its a great device, I suppose battery life is a bit shorter than I am used to, and you have to endure an occasional "please wait" message when you navigate the different functions. Its cool it has a radio, and easily synchs up with audilbes.com. The stupid stopwatch issue is very frustrating though - and it doesnt even have a clock to time yourself with. Hopefully they'll come out with an update.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bad luck, June 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rca S2002 Jet Series Sports Mp3 Player (2 Gb) (Electronics)
I bought two of these because I really like them and had bought at least three from Wal Mart over time. However, the ones I bought on Amazon were junk. The buttons were not correct and they failed very early. I believe them to be used and sold as new. The packaging seemed to support this belief. I have been very happy with most things I bought on amazon but these were junk. if I had confidence I would buy three right now!
