Biography

Keep it simple.

It's easy to forget sometimes. Like when you are looking out across a riot of 16,000 smiles at the Hollywood Bowl, with a 40 piece orchestra exploding behind you.

Like when someone asks you, very politely, if you could just do that 16 second piece of score for the animated cat; again please?

Or even when you're melting in humid Havana, translating an ... Read more in Amazon's Rodrigo y Gabriela Store

Editorial Reviews

Best-selling debut album from Ireland based act (by way of Mexico) that plays instrumental music with powerful lyricism & emotional reach, their devilish blend of jazz, folk, funk, & Latin rhythms are astonishing. Features eight tracks packaged in a digipak. Ruby Works. 2007.

I enjoy all their music.

The live album perfectly integrates cool driving riffs, with spanish guitar progressions.

It's great music and somewhat different than the better known rod and gab material.

This is the debut album of Mexican couple Rodrigo y Gabriella. They are accomplished acoustic guitar players and really explode in this album. They have been residing in Ireland for 5 years now.Their second album is a live perfromance album.Unfortunately it is not available on amazon at the moment. On this one they explain their trash metal roots in Mexico and of Metallica and other bands like slayer and megadeth`s influence on them.Don`t get me wrong their music is very latin american sounding and their guitar playing is incredible.I saw them play live in Limerick and they were breath taking.I would highly recommend this debut to anyone. Also look out for their second album Live in Manchester and Dublin which features 2 live versions of Metallica ONE and clips of the white stripes thrown in for good measure. But on this album all music is written by them.

All I can say is that this duo has the most amazing drive, I have ever heard in music. My dad just brought back their live album from Dublin to the states. It is amazing to hear the two artists from Mexico City shredding those guitars. The live album perfectly integrates cool driving riffs, with spanish guitar progressions. The artists started out busking around Dublin and eventually got a record deal. We must get a big following in the states. Buy this album.

This was an early disc by the duo and it doesn't sound quite as good as the newer studio or live album. Both of the newer works are available in the states now, so unless you are major fan, this disc is safe to skip. It seems like some of the songs overlap with later work (under different song titles?). There is a bit of a stronger spanish/mexican flavor in some parts of this, which some people might find interesting.

I recently saw them in concert and had a great time. Well worth it if they come near you (US Summer 2007).

My first contact with this duo was the 'Rodrigo Y Gabriela' CD (issued in 2006) and since then I became a fan. Recently I bought this first work.

I was prepared to find a crude material in the debut album (from 2002) but for my surprise I found out beautiful music that are not played live. Moreover they are accompanied with side musicians a violin player, a percussionist and a bassist, which adds a very rich texture to their music which is unusual in their works.

Naturally their performance and playing output improved significantly in the last ten years, but I feel that their music with these sidemen sounds better than with an orchestra.

Songs like 'Georges Street/The Tartar Frigate', 'Paris' and 'Temple Bar' are fantastic and withdraws from the RyG trademark rhythm. '30 de Marzo' is a romantic slow ballad that will not work live, but will do well for a dinner.

This CD has great music showing the potential that the duo would present in the future. I recommend.

I find this music so refreshing because it's unlike anything else I've ever heard. I can't get it out of my head it's so addictive. If you like rock, Spanish guitar, or just good music, you'll appreciate the talent this duo brings to the table. Their other album is excellent as well.

Awesome classical guitar music. Heard it first in "Sprouts" in S. Lake Tahoe, CA. Blended in very nicely with this bistro atmosphere.
