5.0 out of 5 stars It's a beautifull album... January 2, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I was searching Johnny Hartman music and found this album... so I heard it, and started to read about Gregory at Internet... So I cannot understand why he isn't famous. This is a very good album, with very good songs and beautifull musical arrangements. If you are searching good jazz, you need to listen this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRAVO! BRAVO! Please Sir... May We Have Some More? February 8, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Gregory Generet is perhaps one of the best kept secrets of the modern jazz world. His instrument is his voice, and oh my... the mad lovely things he can do with it!

Generet (pronounced as one would the first three syllables of the word "Generation") brings back the days and jazzy ways of those male singers/ matinee idols that crooned the standards, blew such lush love songs into a chrome microphone, and made the ladies temporarily lose their minds.

His talent is a cool and immense thing to behold, and the way he folds his voice around a lyric makes one think he actually wrote the words from personal experience. Yes... he's just that good, just that classic and just that magical.

Meanwhile, with songs written by the likes of Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman along with Michel LeGrand (Once You've Been in Love), Van Morrison (Moondance), Juan Tizol and Duke Ellington (Caravan), and Lerner and Lowe (I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face), this CD serves up quite a variety of romantic sound and imagery, only without the often melancholy after-effects.

Produced by the prolific musician/composer Onaje Allan Gumbs, there is just the right amount of mood and atmosphere where intertwining piano and sax solos lend gravity to the project and yet those elements never interfere nor overwhelm the fine quality of musicianship inherent within Generet's voice. It's the singer who clearly carries this recording and this particular retro style fits him like a fine suit of clothes he was born to wear.

With one listen, suddenly you're transported to another time and place inside a small smoky jazz den, where you, the singer and the room are all wrapped inside a cerulean blue neon glare.

Yes, this singer takes you there. This was and is a wonderful introduction to Gregory Generet and just what he is capable of bringing to the idiom of modern jazz singing. Bravo! Bravo!
