Control with the analog pad is a little touchy, so we usually ended up steering with the digital pad. Re-Volt takes full advantage of the Dreamcast's analog triggers, allowing for fine control over forward and reverse speeds. The cars react to the tracks just like their real-life remote control counterparts do: flipping off curbs, absorbing suspension-jarring jumps, and bouncing off competing cars. The tracks are also realistic, letting players race through grocery stores, museums, neighborhoods, and the like. Acclaim even threw in a track editor so intrepid racers can design their own courses.
Don't think that you can outrace the competition by simply droning around the track. Winning requires a combination of driving skill and a mastery of the game's myriad weapons, including oil slicks, bombs, bottle rockets, and water balloons. The weapon effects do much to enhance the game's graphical appeal, which is immense to begin with. --T. Byrl Baker

This game is a blast! It's got a huge variety of tracks and cars, weapons and other power-ups for an exciting twist, and plenty of game modes (single race, championship, practice, stunt track, head-to-head race, and battle tag) to keep you hooked. My friend and I played it the night I bought it, and we soon latched on to "Battle Tag" as our game of choice. Your goal is to find a hidden star, and then evade your opponent(s) for a total of two minutes. But if an opponent finds you and tags you, the chase reverses. Up to four players can compete in any of the multi-player modes. Shooting bottle rockets and water balloons at your friends really adds to the fun of the chase. The background music is totally addictive. We found ourselves turning the volume up louder and louder as the game went on. The tracks and battle arenas are what really set this game apart. Race through neighborhood streets, a toy store, a supermarket, a ghost town, and more. And when you're taking on computer opponents, you WILL end up on the losing end of some well-placed oil slicks and a rocket or two. The controls are pretty tight, but don't be intimidated. Remember, you're supposed to be controlling an R/C car - it's not easy. But it's well worth the patience as you learn to slide through the turns and jump off ramps and curbs.

Controls are a little wierd at first. Once you realize that you're driving an RC car and not a rally car, you're a lot better off... This game is ok for single player, and pretty good for 4 player. 2 and 3 player modes are ok if everyone has played several times before and knows how to play. Newbiee tend to complain a lot about the controls and the 'complecated' maps.

ReVolt is one of the best games I've seen in years. The graphics are amazing, just enough challenge to make it fun and the courses are great...Toytanic? Toys in the Hood? Grrreat! Lots of great cars too, each has its own personality.
