Far too often these days will we see an artist take a song or composition of some kind, and completely twist it for their own uses, and shred it of almost all it's originality. Puddle of Mudd has not only maintained the integrity of the original recordings in the form of tempo, lyricism, and overall arrangement, but they managed to do so while integrating that great earthy sound you've come to expect from Puddle of Mudd.
If you like both the current Alternative sound and appreciate Classic rock of the 60's, 70's, and 80, I think you'll find this a very refreshing project. My hats off on a job VERY WELL DONE!

The first time I saw POM I thought it was just angry music with less than adequate vocals. After listening to and seeing them perform these covers live I was a bit more impressed. It takes a lot of courage (and talent) to cover Neil Young and Tom Petty/Stevie Nicks on the same album. Listen to "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" and pay attention to the layering of voices and everything that's going on musically in the background. Sure his voice doesn't fit every song (called covers for a reason) but the group's music does and today's digital mastering allows us to hear what we probably couldn't when these songs were first released. The only really weak offering here I think is the group's take on Elton John's "Rocket Man". The vocals just aren't smooth enough for that song. I find myself listening to the songs often. You will too.

Best Covers Album Ever,

I wasn't a Puddle of Mudd fan before by any means, but they absolutely kill on every single cover here. Nothing particularly surprising or unexpected, just a great band doing amazing, heart-felt performances of some of the all-time greatest classic rock tunes. Standouts for me are "Rocket Man," "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," "T.N.T." and "Gimme Shelter." If you're a fan of either the band or the songs, I can't imagine how you wouldn't love this album!
