Far too often these days will we see an artist take a song or composition of some kind, and completely twist it for their own uses, and shred it of almost all it's originality. Puddle of Mudd has not only maintained the integrity of the original recordings in the form of tempo, lyricism, and overall arrangement, but they managed to do so while integrating that great earthy sound you've come to expect from Puddle of Mudd.

If you like both the current Alternative sound and appreciate Classic rock of the 60's, 70's, and 80, I think you'll find this a very refreshing project. My hats off on a job VERY WELL DONE!

The first time I saw POM I thought it was just angry music with less than adequate vocals. After listening to and seeing them perform these covers live I was a bit more impressed. It takes a lot of courage (and talent) to cover Neil Young and Tom Petty/Stevie Nicks on the same album. Listen to "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" and pay attention to the layering of voices and everything that's going on musically in the background. Sure his voice doesn't fit every song (called covers for a reason) but the group's music does and today's digital mastering allows us to hear what we probably couldn't when these songs were first released. The only really weak offering here I think is the group's take on Elton John's "Rocket Man". The vocals just aren't smooth enough for that song. I find myself listening to the songs often. You will too.

I wasn't a Puddle of Mudd fan before by any means, but they absolutely kill on every single cover here. Nothing particularly surprising or unexpected, just a great band doing amazing, heart-felt performances of some of the all-time greatest classic rock tunes. Standouts for me are "Rocket Man," "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," "T.N.T." and "Gimme Shelter." If you're a fan of either the band or the songs, I can't imagine how you wouldn't love this album!

While I understand that people who loved these songs to begin with, might be a little disappointed by POM's interpretations of them, they gotta realize they ARE interpretations. I don't think they wanted anyone to think this was the original artist doing these songs, but they did well to hold the original tempo & phrasing. On the other hand, I don't know how even the die-hard Muddhead could give this album 5 stars. They're all great songs, but the picks & sequencing seem a bit uneven.
All things considered, it was a project that was well executed and entertaining to boot!

With the introduction of downloadable music it is rare to find complete albums full of good material today. Artists seem more trained to recording singles instead of a long format album where everything is supposed to mesh together. Everyone seems out for the quick buck. While cover albums have always followed their own tradition Puddle of Mudd reminds us what a good cover and album should be like. From beginning to end this is one that you can push play on and not worry about having to skip the downer song somewhere in the middle. By the time it is finished you are left hoping there is more at the end. While putting their own touch on the songs with Wes Scantlin's unique vocals they keep the integrity of the songs that we all know and love. I give a definite thumbs up to this entire album and definitely recommend it.

I really like this album. I originally looked into purchasing the mp3 single for the Puddle of Mud version of Gimme Shelter which I had heard on the radio, but when I saw the song list including Tom Petty's Stop Draggin' my Heart Around I decided to get the CD. Glad I did. Puddle of Mud does a nice job of rocking up these songs without changing them too much from the original. Not all these songs are from the 80s, but I remember all of them being played back then (class of '83). If you enjoy the original versions of these songs, but also like to listen to "hard rock" stations you will find yourself singing along and will probably like this album. Only song that doesn't really quite fit is Rocket Man - a fine song, but not really rocking enough.

I'm a big fan of Puddle of Mudd. I would pretty much buy whatever they record and so what if they covered a few songs. I think they have great song choices! Love their renditions! The songs brought back some fond memories!
